That’s still not in accord with Catholic teaching. Almost a why bother being Catholic at that point really.

Well they still deserve happiness in some way, and what’s the point. Also, what infallible teaching says that there can’t be secular or civil same-sex marriage. It is against the teaching for sodom, and possibly infallible for Catholic marriage, not secular marriage(I believe so anyways).

It’s a sin for straight people to marry outside the Church so logically it be a sin for them too if they know what they are doing is wrong. And seeking happiness isn’t an excuse to do things against the Church.

Does that make it a sin for Jews and Muslims to marry too? Also, it isn’t necessarily always a sin to marry outside the Church.

It isn’t a sin for Jews and Muslims because they can still contract a non sacramental marriage and they aren’t bound by the laws of the Church through Baptism, but a Catholic can’t do that and be in good standing with the Church, though maybe they could be stuck if they made mistakes in the past.

If that can be non-sacramental, then can that apply to same-sex marriage?

No, because they are Catholic and marriage is only between a man and a woman like Jesus said.

Would it be a sin for a non-Catholic gay couple to get married? They could even get married in a church, just not the Catholic Church. But there are lots of choices: Episcopalian, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, etc. I even know a Muslim imam who will marry gay Muslim couples.

They’re doing something wrong, but whether it is a sin isn’t my place to judge because of mitigating factors.

Only Catholics are bound by canon law. Therefore, only Catholics are required to follow the Catholic form of marriage. This is a matter of discipline, but one based in doctrine.

Some people have genuine romantic/erotic/affectionate feelings towards trees, the ocean and even architecture (there was a famous example of a woman who fell in love with the Eiffel Tower, had a “marriage” and everything). This is an analogy in the extreme, but it shows that there is disordered sexuality in many and various forms towards other people or even things. Just because someone has genuine feelings, does not mean those feelings can be expressed in a healthy way.

Our general tolerance for sexual disorder bespeaks our acquired (and growing) numbness to sin, often motivated by a desire to be “nice”; but nice is not always good (often bad). The truth is, we are all disordered, imperfect, and in need of grace. It’s healthy and truly liberating to realize this.

So, do you think that this woman was hoping to share her life with the Eiffel Tower, go on vacations with it, have nice candle light dinners with it on their anniversaries, share her deepest feelings with it, allow it to be put on her health insurance so that if it needed some repairs or a fresh coat of paint, that could be taken care of (although I’ve never heard of health insurance that covers inanimate objects), etc?

Well I mean, what other reason would she have to marry it? I do not understand this woman.

^— I was about to ask the exact same question.

I experience SSA. Idk I feel very sensitive to language and I don’t see how people say sexual activity whether heterosexual or homosexual is the same thing. Uses term “objectively disordered” when describing same sex activity so that wouldn’t apply to 2 people of opposite sex outside marriage. May still be sin but act is still ordered correctly.

Sometimes I just want to cuddle with a friend of mine, be held. I still struggle to see what’s wrong with that. I’m not really looking for sex.

And it’s not just the act that is “objectively disordered” according to the Church. The inclination itself whether acted upon or not is “objectively disordered” or as another document puts it, “ordered towards an intrinsic moral evil.” Gay people, I guess, just have to live with this constant desire to do unspeakably evil things which are considered to be one of the “sins that cry out to heaven for vengeance.” According to Thomas Aquinas, for a man to have sex with another man is worse than raping a woman.
