Yes, Jesus is more than a Jew. But he is also a Jew. Being more does not take away his jewishness.

Jewish has both an ethnic and religious denotation, so I think she was referring to the cultural and ethnic aspect of being part of the Jewish race. To my understanding, Jewish is a race and it is also a religion. So a Saint like Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross was Jewish by race, but she was also a Catholic in her religion.

Could this be the source of disagreement? He is referring to ethnicity whereas I am referring to religion…

Edit: if this is the case, then (name removed by moderator) is right by saying that Jesus Christ is an ethnic jew.

I particularly like.the subtlety of Jesus taking the name His close (and very rich) friend Lazarus and giving that same name to the poor sick beggar in the parable. Some low-key ribbing about his attachment to riches perhaps?

I also get a chuckle.from Jesus, when found in the Temple and reproached by Mary, giving a.wonderfully teenage response of ‘why were you looking for me?’ - the equivalent of today’s ‘I was fine the whole time, what were you worried about?’ I can almost see the.eyeroll as.He says it.

We Catholics believe and confess this.

And in the first article we see Jesus was born under the law

422 'But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.'1 This is ‘the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God’:'2 God has visited his people. He has fulfilled the promise he made to Abraham and his descendants. He acted far beyond all expectation - he has sent his own ‘beloved Son’.3

Under the law means under Jewish law, God’s law. Not the law of Caesar.

Jesus was born ethnically culturally and racially Jewish. And did not get rid of Jewish law but fulfilled it.

Jesus message was universal, all embracing. Catholic means universal and all embracing. So in those terms yes, Jesus was introducing Catholicism to us.
However , Jesus was Jewish and born under the law, tried under Jewish law for blasphemy and other law breaking activities by Jewish authority. They had been after Jesus to kill Him since He began His Ministry. Rome couldn’t have cared less about Jews breaking Jewish law.

Yes, calling John and James “sons of thunder” because they wanted to punish the town that didn’t receive them was good humor!
