There has been interesting dialogue in other threads about the implications of being separated from the Catholic Church. Catholic doctrine has doctrines that try to delineate the boundaries of separation- for instance, in the cases of schisms and heresy.

My question is whether it is possible to produce such great and profound works, in Christ’s name, to overcome any possible separation one may have from God and the Catholic Church?

Is there a line that you just cannot cross? If so, where do you believe it is? If you do cross that line, are your works in vain?

Yes, there is a line that severes you from Christ, and that line is mortal sin. If with full advertence and perfect consent, one willfully commits grave sin and remains unrepentent of such a sin, then all the human works in the world, all the “Lord, Lord” words that one utters will not bring him back into communion with Christ. It takes metanoia, and while one might be able to “appear” holy, one cannot fake metanoia with God. If one has fallen from grace, the only one who can restore that grace is God, not anything done by man.
