It is not that simple, as this is only true if secularist is defined very narrowly.Did the founding fathers want to establish an official religion? No. Then they were secularists. It’s that simple.
Not allowing an official religion is not the same as saying religion has no place in civil affair. This is clear in the Franklin quote.World English Dictionary
