Dear Brothers and Sisters,

May the Holy Spirit guide us all today, as we continue to listen to the Words God gave St. Louis de Montfort to write for the Church in his tretise on “[True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin]”(Treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin | EWTN):
  1. God the Son wishes to form himself, and, in a manner of speaking, become incarnate every day in his members through his dear Mother. To her he said: “Take Israel for your inheritance.” It is as if he said, God the Father has given me as heritage all the nations of the earth, all men good and evil, predestinate and reprobate. To the good I shall be father and advocate, to the bad a just avenger, but to all I shall be a judge. But you, my dear Mother, will have for your heritage and possession only the predestinate represented by Israel. As their loving mother, you will give them birth, feed them and rear them. As their queen, you will lead, govern and defend them.
  2. "This one and that one were born in her." According to the explanation of some of the Fathers, the first man born of Mary is the God-man, Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ, the head of mankind, is born of her, the predestinate, who are members of this head, must also as a necessary consequence be born of her. One and the same mother does not give birth to the head without the members nor to the members without the head, for these would be monsters in the order of nature. In the order of grace likewise the head and the members are born of the same mother. If a member of the mystical body of Christ, that is, one of the predestinate, were born of a mother other than Mary who gave birth to the head, he would not be one of the predestinate, nor a member of Jesus Christ, but a monster in the order of grace.
  3. Moreover, Jesus is still as much as ever the fruit of Mary, as heaven and earth repeat thousands of times a day: “Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.” It is therefore certain that Jesus is the fruit and gift of Mary for every single man who possesses him, just as truly as he is for all mankind. Consequently, if any of the faithful have Jesus formed in their heart they can boldly say, “It is thanks to Mary that what I possess is Jesus her fruit, and without her I would not have him.” We can attribute more truly to her what Saint Paul said of himself, “I am in labour again with all the children of God until Jesus Christ, my Son, is formed in them to the fullness of his age.” Saint Augustine, surpassing himself as well as all that I have said so far, affirms that in order to be conformed to the image of the Son of God all the predestinate, while in the world, are hidden in the womb of the Blessed Virgin where they are protected, nourished, cared for and developed by this good Mother, until the day she brings them forth to a life of glory after death, which the Church calls the birthday of the just. This is indeed a mystery of grace unknown to the reprobate and little known even to the predestinate!

The Philippines: 21 days of prayer for “national healing”​

Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan, the Philippines, called for 21 days of prayer, which were dedicated to the “national healing” of the country, overwhelmed by many challenges, including that of the coronavirus pandemic. It ran from July 16th, feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, to August 5th, the dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.

In a letter to the priests of the archdiocese, Archbishop Villegas stressed the sense of “powerlessness and discouragement” that hovers over the country and highlighted how the health emergency and “socio-political unrest” make people feel “incapable of doing anything, of understanding how to be disciples of the Lord.”

Hence, the invocation to the Virgin Mary — because “if we cling to her,” underlined the archbishop, “we will never remain defenseless.

”Archbishop Villegas explained that the meaning of the number 21 refers to the twenty-one acts of rebellion of the Israelites after the liberation from Egypt. “We must repent if we want to be healed,” he urged.

Specifically, during the 21 days of the initiative, the Act of Consecration of the country to Our Lady and the “Prayer for national healing” were to be recited at each Mass. The recitation of the same prayers was also encouraged in families, at the end of the daily Rosary. On August 5, the last day of the initiative, a solemn Mass was celebrated in the Basilica of Our Lady of Manaoag, attended only by diocesan priests and religious because of the limits imposed by the pandemic. However, the Mass was streamed and the faithful encouraged to participate through the available social media platforms.

“Let us not give in to discouragement and sadness,” Archbishop Villegas concluded, “but let us go to Our Lady, our Mother, let us trust in her and seek comfort.”

I forwarded it to two members of the Legion of Mary who are also members of our Bible Study. They’re from the Phillipines and devout members of our parish. They have great devotion to Our Blessed Mother and they may have known about this 21 days of prayer, but in case they did not see or hear about it.-- I know they will be blessed (as I surely was blessed ) to read it.

The parts of the article which touched me deeply were:

Each day as I finish my Rosaries, and say “Hail Holy Queen Mother of Mercy” the Holy Spirit takes me “Through Him” to Our Father where my soul Glorifies Him with thanks and praise. It is right and just always to give Him thanks and praise!

JESUS CHRIST IS OUR FATHERS SIMPLE PLAN FOR SALVATION SINCE BEFORE TIME BEGAN!

Dear brother hazcompat,

The Lord’s plan continues to draw us to Himself, and His plan to save us, He knew from all eternity was to have Jesus become incarnate by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary. Jesus Incarnate is both God and Man – an incomprehensible Mystery yet by God’s Grace we come to be part of His Body born of Mary by our Baptism.

The Life, Death, Resurrection and Ascension and newly added Luminous Mystries of the Rosary which we pray – when prayed with attention and devotion, enable us to appreciate more and more this incomprehensible Mystery of our Life in Christ, from newly born of water and the Spirit in Baptism, to continuing growth in Spirit and in Truth, through the other Sacraments. Mary’s role continues in God’s Plan, and I encourage all to continue reading the Wisdom God gave to St. Louis de Montfort in his treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin in order to understand it more fully.

To ignore or simply consider her as not part of His Plan is Mary is to have an “incomplete” understanding of Jesus. He IS, of course, our sole Mediator with the Father, but Jesus has also made Mary our Mediatrix with Himself as she gave birth to Him as Head of His Body and also birth to all the members of His Mystical Body. God is more honred when we go to Jesus through Mary, than when we do not recognize her as our Mother, even as Jesus told us: “Behold your Mother”.

I believe you do love Mary, dear brother, but I write these words for anyone who may still think any devotion and perhaps especially De Montfort’s “True Devotion” is a mere “option”. We cannot simply hear Jesus tell us through John: “Behold your Mother” and not take His words seriously. I hope you can understand what I am feebly hoping to share . I firmly believe that Jesuus came to us to save us through Mary and He will do so until the end of time.

Dear @MariaChristi, may God bless you. I love the Virgin Mary and my heart aches for anyone who chooses not to love her. She’s very close to my heart ever since I became Catholic.

Thanks so much for your reply and for loving our dear Mother Mary, given to us by Jesus from His Cross! Yes, my heart aches too for anyone who does not know her – for to know her truly is to love her by the Grace God has offered to all. Yes, as you wrote, sadly, there are persons who choose not to love her!

Let us continue to pray for all those in most need of His Mercy for Mary is very precious to God and Jesus honors her in heaven as He honored her on earth because she is our perfect, sinless Model for the Church, who was created by God Immaculate from the first instant of her conception and who remained sinless all her life on earth.

Yes, it is sad and we need to pray for anyone who has not yet learned of her love for us, such that they would desire to love her.

“O my Jesus forgive us and save us from the fires of hell. Draw all souls to heaven especially those in most need of Your Mercy.” Prayer is so powerful a gift God has given us! Many Saints prayed with such fervent Supernatural Faith. Hope and Charity, they saw their prayers answered. I’m thinking especially of St. Monica who prayed for her son and she was heard by God after praying for many years. Her son Augustine was drawn to God and became a great saint.

It is good to read of your Love for Mary – whom I believe prayed for you and all of us that we might come closer to God! Thanks again for sharing your love for Mary with us.
