I also attended a Catholic Easter Sunday Mass in the English language.
First did you have the Sequence at Easter Sunday Mass? Was it Recited or Sung?

The Sequence was sung at the Sunday Masses. The Exsultet was sung at the Vigil Mass.

Sequence was chanted in English by our youth/children’s group (about seven singers age 8-15). I played the organ to help them out, and to encourage the congregation to sing, which they did 😃

Sung in Latin a cappella by the monks of the abbey where I attended Easter Mass. I sang it with them as they alternated between schola (cantors) and choir so I joined in with the choir.

Omitted, as it is the custom for the Easter Dawn Mass in the Philippines.

We sang a metrical version of the Sequence. It is one of my favorite things to sing each year.

If you had Gregorian chant, the Sequence was but a small part of it, yes? 😉

I always fear that many will walk out during some of the extended chants but they don’t.

No sequence (sadly) but if anyone can provide a link to music (sheet and / or recording) I would be very grateful.

Exsultet sung at the Vigil, but no sequence on Easter Sunday. Same priest for both Masses.

  1. The Sequence which, except on Easter Sunday and on Pentecost Day, is optional, is sung before the Alleluia.

At our cathedral the sequence was sung by the choir in Latin. The Gloria, Sequence, Sanctus and Agnus Dei were sung in Latin- the rest of the mass was sung or spoken in English. It was one of 7 masses for the day, but it was packed to the roof.

At Easter Sunday Mass here, the Sequence was Christ the Lord Is Risen Today. It was gloriously sung.

Was it the one that goes “Christ, the Lord, is risen today. Christians haste your vows to pay…”? We sang that one. It is beautiful.
