Sequence music choice

I need so help. At Pentecost, the music group at my parish sang “By the Waking of Our Hearts” for the Sequence. I off-handedly mentioned it to the Music Leader, and was told that it was acceptable. What do I do? Why can’t we just follow the GIRM?

There are some options on most of the sequences listed in our missalette. I know the Latin Sequence is supposed to be rhythmic and rhyming, but a rough translation does not sound well sung, an practically speaking, won’t be sung. Most all will mutter through it our just be silent.
