Finally you get to see the ‘verse close up and personal, with more detail than you knew existed! Plus there’s extra stuff.

Now we get to see “Book” in High Definition 👍

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

FIREFLY

Besides how great it will be to see this in high-def - I may have to break down and buy a damn blu-ray player now - there’s new stuff! A new additional audio commentary by Joss, Nathan, Alan and Ron (on “Our Mrs. Reynolds”) and the featurette “‘Firefly’ Reunion: Lunch with Joss, Nathan, Alan and Ron.” Yes, we get to hear Nathan talk about his bride. I’d pay just to hear that… I thought I had read about a cnew commentary on “Ariel” but I forget where, so I’ll get back to you.

Coming next Tuesday on three BD-50 dual-layer discs, presented in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Audio options include French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dubs, an additional German DTS 5.1 Surround track, and English, Spanish and Dutch subtitles. You can still preorder it at Amazon and get it for $57.95, 32 bucks off the retail price.

SERENITY

All the same extras from before, plus some great new ones:
Alliance Database (New!)
U Control (New!)
Mr. Universe Compendium (New!)
Digital Tour of Serenity (New!)
Picture in Picture (New!)
Visual Commentary with Writer/Director Joss Whedon & Cast (New and extremely cool!)
BD Live: My Scenes Sharing (New, what ever it is)
Plus, you know, the movie, with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and a 2.35:1 1080p video transfer.
Coming December 30.

Oh man, now DH is going to want a Blu Ray player! And a high-def TV, but I think that’s coming after Thanksgiving. We’ve got both on DVD, but seeing them in high def with the extras–fantasic!

Ok someone 'splain to me the difference between DVD and Blu Ray.
We have a DVD player on it’s last legs and several DVD’s that we’d like to continue to view…

I think that HD-DVD and BluRay had a war and BluRay won. Is that right?

What I really want to know is do I have to buy a new DVD player or are my DVD’s going to play albeit without all the fancy new stuff on a new Blu Ray player.

Christmas presents are riding on this answer. 😉

Your DVDs will certainly continue to play in your current DVD player. Whenever it does die, if you get a BluRay player, it will also play your DVDs. I believe, though, that BluRay will slowly take over DVDs as the medium of choice for movies, like DVDs overtook VCR tapes.

And yes, BluRay won over HDDVD. Thank goodness, I feel like my mouth is spasming having to say all those 'D’s in quick succession. >.>

I’d also like to point out that a BluRay player will make DVDs look better on screen because it uses an advanced system of upconverting the DVD. DVDs are not able to broadcast in High Definition mode, but the Blu Ray players use advanced circuitry that nearly mimics Hi-Def when playing a standard DVD. So if you have a Blu Ray player your DVDs will look better. Also your Blu Ray discs will look AWESOME.

Our bedroom DVD player died earlier this year, I replaced it with a Blu Ray that was on sale, and came with my choice of 3 free Blu Ray discs. WOW I could not believe the difference 😃 The images are MUCH more vibrant and clear. On top of that, Blu Ray players and discs have a lot more features than DVD players/discs.

Because they cost more, I would not recommend anyone rush out and buy a Blu Ray machine, BUT IF your DVD player dies, or if you need a new player, then I’d recommend spending the extra money for a Blu Ray. 👍

I’m glad they did a new commentary on Serenity. The other one was mostly about the lighting! I am a commentary junkie and I was very disappointed.

Agggh. If I EVER hear that theme song again, I will pull off my ears.

The show was good, just not as good as DH and DS think (and they watch the DVDs over and over and over and over…)
