I have an invitation to go visit my siblings in ca( I live in IL) for a wonderful week with them in a rental house on catalina island.
the week they booked is aug 17-24,
i looked up the public school start date for school in my area and it is so early. AUG 18TH!! I cant believe how early .
I have to ask my kids school office today what their start date is. they usually go along with the public school calendar but let’ pray this time it is later.
I know this might seem frivolous but I miss my family and if I can get out there, I would have to probably pay my way, the res of the trip would be taken care of.( I think!)
I am single mom work all the time ( at home) take care of my 2 little girls. I know it is a long shot and i do have a lot of financial troubles… I just want prayers that this can work out.
I have to move June 15 also, since my lease is up and they are selling this house.
Pray also for that, that I find another good home for me and the kids maybe this time a little closer to their school and maybe with a back yard and maybe they will allow us to have a cat…
i feel like there is only work to look fwd to yet I know I am lucky too in many ways. My dad died in January and it has been a sad winter and early spring for me. All I do is work and I think I have gained weight.

Bless them with a wonderful place to live as they plan the move in June. Grant that these children have a wonderful yard to play in.

Praying for you, Jackie, both financially and for the school calendar. Glad to see another Illini!

HOWEVER- As somebody who used to work in a Catholic school, I can honestly say that the first week of school is about getting settled, getting rules learned, and getting to know teachers and classmates. If your girls are good students at their young ages, you might just want to take them to Catalina anyway. Travel is a good learning experience.

I am sure there are a couple teachers who will disagree with me. Sorry, but that’s my opinion.
 
Heavenly Father. Please Help Jackie in this situation. Open her eyes to see you, open her ears to listen to you and PLEASE help her find the way in this difficult moment.

WOW ! thanks for the prayers and remarks. believe it or not, I went into the office and asked what the starting date for the new school year is and … THEY DO NOT HAVE ONE YET, so there is still hope. the secretary said it is because the public schools want their semester to end before Christmas break ( ai am sure they call it winter break!)
and anyway… she said it might be that week but the Thursday, so maybe we can skate in there and miss those first half days like “Chicago suburbs” up above ( wink) suggested.
How many other families might have special times they cannot miss. I bet I am not the only one.
Thank you all for the prayers, I am so glad i found this site. such a great group. I have not many friends and work from home so need positive people!

thanks everyone.
this really keeps me serene. my sis called and my brother suggested to go ahead and plan on going on the trip and be at the family reunion… tell the school( if when they let me know the exact dates… that I made the plans and the plans are already made… to go to the trip… so… nothing I can do about it.
) there is still hope that the principal will plan the school year to start around the same date as last yr which was August 23rd.
Pray the principal makes the 08 aug start date later than earlier than last year and does not coincide with the public schools!
( I am feeling like home schooling looks better and better all the time,)🤷

well I found out just now that the"fee day" is the 18th and the first day of school is the 21st.

I am guessing I could still go be with my family and miss fee day and miss the first 2 days of school>>>>>
not sure if the school will be upset with me…
will they kick my kids out for this>

I would guess I am not the only one gone the first 2 days of school…

pros of going on trip… have a wonderful time with siblings i have not gotten to spend more than a couple of hours with in the past 7 yrs…and before that… not much time really as I have lived in IL since 85. they are mostly in CA.

strengthen the bonds with my siblings… after the death of my dad it has been lonely and I do get depressed at times.
be with my siblings( there are 8 kids total in my family… not all will be able to be there… but I know at least 2 brothers and 2 sisters are planning on going. nieces and nephews…

It can only strengthen my 2 lil girls self esteem…( they are 7 and 8) we have my bigger kids in the area here in IL but… they ahve their own lives. the trip will allow them to be with their aunts uncles cousins,

we can also spend some time with my mom as that is the home base we will arrive at before going to Catalina.

I will also have something to look fwd to this summer…ny culture and lifestyle of healthy outdoorsy ocean , nature, family… that is what this trip will enchance for my 2 lil girls. also my older 3 kids might want to go… if their schedules permit.

so my worries about not having my girls there the first 2 days of school… I will need to ask someone to pay for my fees, be there to go around at registration day… can i ask someone to do that for me>( give them a blank check in other words)

that is the day you sign up for sports( mine are too young) and check addresses and everything.

PLease continue to pray that I get more serenity on this whole situation as we do get a discount for tuition( I have to reapply this yr) and I do not want the school to think I am not conscientious.

well. my sis has made the arrangements and me and my kids will have to leave the reunion early… so… that is that.
she could not book any rooms for earlier.
so we will only get to stay a few days instead of a week.
pray that we will have a nice reunion and that me and my kids have a nice time… and that my bigger kids have a nice time with their aunts uncles and cousins.
pray everyone feels it is enough time… jsut right,.perhaps.
i wish we didnt have to rush as school starts so early here, and flying back across the country is such a pain nowadays…
well… my sis said she will pay for my flight so i should just be happy we get to go at all.
i somehow feel invisible in the family and wish i didnt. it is always the case though with certain cliques in teh family . pray for that too.
i have to move this month and the stress is getting to me as a single mom, having to do all that needs to be done/
it is a miracle i have been able to make enough mnoney to pay tax payment, ( my tax bills are huge) and all the rest…
God is helping me becvome independent.
 
pray for me when I ask the pastor and principal about this whole dilemma.
please pray that all goes for everyone’s peace of mind and I think if they do not mind my kids missing the first day of schhol ( 2 days) then… i will still have to leave the trip early, so it is still a compromise…
maybe i will tell them that.
i am so bad at things like this. pray for me that all will be done according to God;s plan… for my family, kids self esteem( we have no family in IL)
