Serious Disrespect?

I know I’ll get responses of “go to confession” (I will and I do weekly), but I feel the need to ask anyway.

While taking care of errends today with my mother, she yelled and criticized my driving despite the fact I was doing nothing illegal or careless (to my knowledge). As she was yelling, I was restraining my temper.
Shortly after she stopped, we had passed a couple that we had saw previously still standing by the same cross walk. She asked why they were still there to which I replied I didn’t know why. Apparently, she did not understand my response so she asked again and I responded the same way. She then asked a third time, which at that point I became annoyed and raised my voice my saying I DON"T KNOW. I’m not sure if my response could be considered yelling.

I have trouble controlling my temper when dealing with my mother at times, and I’ve brought this issue to confession before. Importantly, I want to know if what I did was serious enough to avoid taking communion. Responses would be appreciated.

I do not think what you described meets the criteria for mortal sin. You were frustrated and think you may have yelled. Sounds like you did a good job controlling your temper throughout the errands, but got irritated at having to repeat yourself.

You may have bad feelings about your mother (I don’t know) but I don’t believe your actions constituted a mortal sin by any means and you should definitely take communion. You will gain strength from the Eucharist which will continue to help you in the way you respond to your mother.

Its good that you feel guilty for yelling like that I think…its not real nice…maybe it was sinful…but in no way is that a mortal sin…please be careful…there are so many questions on here asking if every little thing is a mortal sin, and I used to ask many myself…discounting none that are real, the scrupulous ones are a great many…and worrying about sin all the time as an obsession can be a hell in itself…while sin of extreme importance to avoid, there is such a thing as obsession with sin…and worrying like an anxiety disorder…
