Serious question for Mormons

In response to the OP, there cannot be any evidence because none of the Book of Mormon happoened. It would be like looking for evidence of the battle that occurred in Narnia.

Mormons have had to make the Book of Mormon a moving target. First it happend in Central America…until it was clear it could not have, then it happened in South America. Nope. Then in the Great Lakes region. Nope.

But we caught a break. MANY LDS prophets and Apostles DECLARED as fact that the Cumorah in New York was the same as the one the Book of Mormon. They DECLARED as fact that the great and enorpus war occured at that Cumorah in New York. They discussed it General Conference, it was written in Church Publications…it was a FACT.

Then it became clear that archeology would not support that fact.

So it became a moving target, too. Suddenly, all of those declarations by prophets were just opinions…suddenly, they have no clue where it is.

It would be hysterical if it were not so tragic.

Since the OP is long gone and the OP questions answered long ago, I would suggest this thread be closed.

When have these questions been answered? What books have been printed by the church to settle these matters once and for all?

Never and none.

The fact is that since it’s only organizations like FAIR or FARMS, both less than objective and impartial, that have ‘answered’ the charges against Mormonism, they really haven’t been addressed at all because they’re not run by Jesus Christ Almighty from Salt Lake City, UT, are they? Instead, the church filters its opinion through them and therefore doesn’t have to take responsibility when they are proven to be the same old regular nonsense that we always see from Mormon apologists. The church lets its flunkies do its dirty work and then tells them they’re doing God’s work.

No, the church has never once officially answered these questions because the leaders likely know it’ll raise even more and ultimately undermine their missionary work.

I have not turned any of the “little grey cells” on to this complex problem.

It clearly has too much complexity and history for me to shoot from the hip, after reading a few posts.

Net, I’m not really concerned with or standing anywhere on the issue.

Okay Todd. You are scaring me. You actually need to “turn on your little grey cells” to discuss this?

Too much complexity? What’s complex? What’s the problem?

Uhhh…I am not asking you to shoot from the hip. You are a Mormon right? The Book of Mormon is, according to Joseph Smith, “the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” Have you read it? (Try re-reading it with a few Tums nearby, maybe the burning sensation is not what you think!)

In my opinion, you should be able to discuss the Book of Mormon with some degree of certainty if you are professing it to be the truth.

I’m not really concerned with or standing anywhere on the issue = there is no true answer to a very important issue but I want to be Mormon anyway.

Wouldn’t a person need to know about the BoM before becoming a Mormon?

What is your study plan?
Will you complete it before trying to convert others?
Why in the world would you need to become an expert - just learn to google “Hill Cumorah” and read your church’s teaching on the subject. That’s how I learned about your church’s teachings on the subject - it is not my opinion on the matter, it is the LDS church teachings.
Believe me, I have debated several missionaries on these topics and they are not experts -they can’t answer the questions either but that hasn’t stopped them from going out and telling the world they know the Book of Mormon is true and the church is true.
