There have been a few threads lately discussing NFP. I am listening to a new sermon from the FSSP Priest at audiosancto that deals with this subject. He gives a lot of magisterial quotes that were not given in that thread.
To summarize, NFP is allowed by the Church for serious reasons, but is sinful if no serious reason exists. Thus, for serious reasons, the primary end of marriage can be purposefully avoided (as long as it is by natural means), while still enjoying the secondary end.
He provides many quotes from Pope Pius XII dealing with this subject, including a quote that lists some serious reasons that justify the use of NFP.
