Has anyone read them or even know where to find them? I read little excerpts here and there, and it seems they are quite easy reading and lots of rich content (he is a Doctor of the Church after all).

Hello there 0129141, 🙂 Sure hope those numbers mean something to you. I would forget my ID if they didn’t mean much to me. 🙂

Here you go kid, enjoy:

Saint Anthony is one of my top saints. Thank you for asking. Now I am going to read them too. He has intervened for me in some of the most difficult times of my life.

Peace,

Abba

Thanks! Nice to see someone appreciates Anthony for his writings and teachings; not that its bad people pray to him for other things:thumbsup:

Dear 0129141, 🙂

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for starting this thread. Up until I read your OP I did not know that we had any writings of Saint Anthony of Padua. I researched the availability for you and posted but, I went ahead and bought the book.

I have received a great gift from you. When I was a child, my grandmother read to me the stories of the saints and Saint Anthony was one of my favorites (and Saint Martin de Porres) because of their stories with animals. Out of that far, far childhood sentiment for Saint Anthony, once while visiting New York I decided to go to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Fifth Avenue and noticed there was a statue of Saint Anthony. Many people surrounded the statue and lit candles. There were a lot of candles all about the statue. I decided to pray to Saint Anthony and lit a candle for my intentions. I don’t know that my prayers for which I asked him to intercede for me were answered but, it wasn’t that as it was the spiritual contact which was not originated by me. I just experienced, to keep it simple, that he was listening. It became a habit of mine to go to the Cathedral every time I visited New York and I would light some candles for my intentions. I think he responded to a childhood attraction of mine and he made himself my favorite saint. I remember sharing my spirituality with Saint Anthony with a friend who has since passed away, and she would ask me to light a candle for her and her sons every time I announced I was going to New York. Actually, this friend later went to France to visit me and wanted to go to Lourdes. I had never even heard of Lourdes up to then and now after having gone there, I think every one should go at least once if they get a chance.

Well, my spirituality/relationship with Saint Anthony matured and it has been wonderful. So, imagine how wonderful it has been for me to discover that we have his writings?!? I am very familiar with the story of Saint Anthony. I even have a beautiful children book around some place that a bought for my children years ago.

What makes it super special to me to learn that he wrote his Bible analysis and that we have his writings, is the part of his story about that day in Rome when he first gave a sermon. Are you familiar with that story? His superior had him down as a brute (he was very humble and silent) and he happened to have gone to Rome for a conference, I think at the Cathedral or someplace important, and the person that was suppose to give the sermon could not make it and reluctantly Saint Anthony was asked to give the sermon. They did not expect much but when he started to speak they were all left in awe.

Now, because of you, 0129141 🙂 I know his approach and have read his sermons and understand why the people that heard him speak that famous day were touched to the point of tears. After that famous sermon his job was changed from dish washer in an isolated place to evangelizing the people. Then, Saint Francis, himself, asked Saint Anthony to teach the brothers - but this little piece of information I only read from the book I have of his sermons.

It’s a wonderful gift to read Saint Anthony’s sermons and have a pretty good idea of the sermon he gave that famous day. It’s just amazing. Thank you.

I don’t know that this thread belongs in the philosophy forum but, there isn’t a Saint forum. 🤷

Thank you very much for starting this thread. May God bless you,

Abba

St. Anthony’s writings and sermons have been published in English. I saw them at his Basilica in Italy. It looks like post 2 is a good source.

I have a small booklet from the Basilica. Here is the USA address for the “Messenger of Saint Anthony” which I believe comes from Italy. This may give you a local address for getting St. Anthony’s writings.
It is
Anthonian Association
101 St. Anthony Drive
Mount St. Francis, IN 47146

These are two websites from this booklet.
www.saintanthonyofpadua.net
www.messengersaintanthony.com

This is an e-mail address. info@mess-s-antonio.it

Hope this works. I owe St. Anthony a favor so let me know if you need more help.

Blessings,
granny

St. Anthony, please watch over our souls.
