The first promise of the Virgin Mary for those who pray the Rosary…
Whoever shall faithfully **serve me **by the recitation of the rosary shall receive signal graces.
Is this statement in keeping with Mary’s humility and complete submission to God? Why would Mary ask her children to “serve her”?

If Mary’s primary role is to lead us to Christ why would she make such a request?

What does it mean to serve Mary?

Well, she specifies exactly what she wants people to do - she wants the Rosary to be prayed. No more, no less. It’s a very Christocentric prayer, not really about the ‘Hail Marys’ of themselves, more about the meditation on the life of Christ cotained in the mysteries, and looking at its events as she would’ve seen them.

So she’s not saying ‘serve me’ in the sense of ‘be my slave’ or ‘devote yourself to me’ it’s simply in the sense of ‘do this one thing that pleases both me and my son’.

It’s completely in keeping with her humility that she would tell us to pray and meditate on the events of her son’s life.

Levi,

A good way to understand the promises of graces for those who pray the Rosary is to look at their opposites: “Those who spend 20 minutes a day meditating on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus will not receive any spiritual benefit from it.” It’s rather ridiculous, isn’t it?

Because people will do things for a mother that they would not do for a father, even if that father is God.

Obey her commandment to “do what He tells you to.”
