Is it ok to have/ attend service of the word on Easter Sunday instead of having an actual Easter mass.

I’m wondering where you could even find such a service unless there truly is no priest available.

The Liturgy of the Word is the first half of the mass, with the Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist being the second half. They are inseparable.

I would not attend such a half-massed service.

Not for that particular church however there was a preist available at a church less than 30 minutes away

I made a 30 minute drive for mass this morning
So did I - then I made a 30 minute drive back again for my next mass!

A liturgy on Easter Sunday is far from ideal (to put it mildly) but in rural areas finding cover can be challenging for priests at the best of times. There may well be very good reasons why there’s only a liturgy available at the OP’s church and not everyone is able to make an hour return trip to the next nearest parish. Granted, that’s taking a charitable view since I’m obviously not familiar with the staffing situation in the OP’s area. There are however sadly some priests who see a liturgy as being an adequate substitute for a mass.

I must admit that we have no preist in this parish or in the neighbouring parishes, so it is normal to have to travel half an hour or more to attend mass 3 churches have mass weekly 1 has mass monthly however they can go to another church 15-20 minutes away for mass our preist makes a 2-3 hour round trip ( 1 -1.5 hour each way) to say mass. 1 church has a preist Saturday night we have no presbetry so the preist drives back again afterwards then we normally have 1 or 2 preists go to 2 of the other churches in our parish

It’s actually preferable for areas where no priest is available. Communion from the Tabernacle follows.

A communion service, yes. I should have been more clear. Where a priest is available, the mass is an organic whole.
