I thought we coould discuss this writing by Pius XIII concerning various types of labor and what is and isnt allowed on Holy days.

Also, I have a few questions of my own:
1)We had a plummer come out last Sunday because our drains and toiled were backing up .Was this o.k.
2)My wife wants me to take down boxes of Christmas decorations from the attick tomorrow on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. I feel like this constitutes servile labor. Your thoughts?

My friend, you are being far too scrupulous. The key words are unnecessary and servile. Labour has to be both to fit the bill.

Fixing a blocked toilet is completely necessary, that much should be so obvious that the question surprises me. And do you know what servile means? Slave-like. I’ve carted Christmas decorations around many times, and unless we’re talking dozens of boxes weighing many kilos each or something, it is a simple task with nothing especially servile or laborious about it. Besides which, it’s for Christmas - you know, in honour of the Christ Child. I’m sure He wouldn’t mind your honouring Him by helping decorate your place for His birth in this way.

Scrupulosity seems to be rearing its head. Please seek spiritual direction from a priest.

Cutting the grass can be considered servile then why is moving a bunch of heavy boxes down an attic not considered servile? I am confused and have been all day.

Whose grass are you cutting? Yours or your employers? SERVILE WORK Like a servant. Work that’s being done to serve someone else. 1ke is right, you need to see a priest for the scrupulosity and maybe a psychiatrist to treat the resulting anxiety if this is taking up your entire day.

You’re taking down Christmas decorations to decorate your home to honor Christ. How that could be considered servile I have no idea. The only person you’re serving there is God and that’s what holy days are all about.

Perhaps you do not realize that this site you visited is a Sedevacantist site?

There is no Pope Pius XIII. The guy who was “elected” Pope Pius XIII was a priest in Washington state under serious delusion.

Please do not return to that site and seek instead the guidance of your pastor.

Really, am I scrupulous? Because I have been worrying about this all day, all kinds of head pressure, bad thoughts… eeecchh how come nobody told me? or did they? am I in denial?

I prefer to put up the Christmas decorations closer to Christmas time because I want to put an emphasis on celebrating advent, then celebrate the Christmas season. but my wife wants them up now. I only prefer a few things up for Christmas, although my wife likes to put up more. I guess this one is not worth arguing over, huh?

Not to scrupulously back track but many people on here have said cutting grass is not allowed on Holy Days.

Get your doctrine from the Catechism and let a priest be your spiritual director to form your conscience. Don’t take cues from people on the Internet.

Except the part about chilling out and getting help for your scrupulosity. That part you should listen to.

I cant thank you all enough. Truly I will work through this. Keep me in your prayers and I will keep you in mine.

:ouch: Yeah. Please… When surfing the interwebz… be SURE of what you’re looking at. The internet can be a useful educational tool, or a cesspool of filth and disinformation. The man claiming to be Pius XIII is not well. I shall pray for him.

LOL. That was my first thought. I started wondering if it was a typo or if my Roman numeral knowledge was off. I noticed that this was written in 1999. Weird.
