Serving as an election officer on Sunday

We are having presidential elections here in Finland, and I came to think about if it is acceptable to serve as an election officer. Election days are almost always Sunday here. The work comprises preparing the voting booths, receiving voters and counting votes. It takes up almost the entire day, though it is possible to arrange a break for mass, for example. In principle, it is a civil duty to accept the job if one is chosen, though in practice it is entirely voluntary, because the remuneration is decent, so there are enough applicants. A couple of times I have applied to the position to earn a little money. Do you think it is appropriate to work like that?

Provided you don’t miss Mass - and don’t forget that most parishes usually also have a Saturday evening Mass for those who can’t attend on Sunday - then I don’t see the problem, especially as you’re doing a good service for the community as a whole. It is a special occasion as well, after all.

I have always been very hands on involved in politics.I too have served as you.I am sure you will be able to attend Mass.Good for you doing your civic duty.I not only think it is appropriate I respect and admire you for doing such work.
