Seth Rogen?

Im curious what people think of him, I like him some of the time, but I think he goes too far as well at times, it seems like most of his characters are similar, and its just Seth being Seth, with the role being written for him specifically.

Although I watched his latest movie, The night before, the church scene, where he goes to midnight mass as a jewish man with his in laws, high on multiple drugs, to be offensive, I had to turn the movie off actually, I could not believe they went that far.
 
I haven’t seen him in a movie in a long time, largely because I feel like I’ve “grown out of” the types of movies he’s in. He can play a lovable doofus well, but yeah, that’s just his persona.

While due to content I doubt I’d see it again, I was actually rather impressed with his performance in “Knocked Up,” because he portrayed a man who decided to man up, grow up, and be a dad to his kid (including being willing to marry the mom). Yes, the movie had lots of rather gross jokes, but it was rather pro-life in overall tone and message. You don’t get a lot of that these days.
 
He’s not really that funny, or that charismatic, to merit a career as a professional actor. He seems to be just one lucky dude. Just my opinion.

Wholeheartedly agree. I just don’t get why he is anything in showbiz, I don’t find a single thing about what he has done to be funny or entertaining. I watched the movie The Interview and it was nothing but extreme over-the-top predictable “humor” that I would think only appeals to drunken college boys.
 
He’s all right, he has his moments, but I feel like his funniness is mostly personality rather than genuine talent, not to say that he lacks the latter altogether.

Thats why he is so successful as an actor, that particular demographic are the ones spending money to go see those types of movies. I cant think of one serious role has has played, everything I have seen him in, it seems its just Seth being Seth and the role was written for him. Sort of like George Clooney, its hard to tell the where the actor ends and the character begins.

I think he would probably agree with you. I saw an interview with him and Conan O’Brien where Rogen joked about how guilty he feels for his success.
 
I don’t know that I’ve ever actually seen a movie with him in it.

With certain actors like him who play the same role over and over, I wonder how much of it is them just being themselves on camera versus them simply being typecast as a character actor. Maybe he’s nothing like those characters and is just a really good actor. 😛

With Rogan, I think it’s him being him on camera, based on his behavior in special features that record him ‘off camera’.
 
I was surprised to learn that he got his start as a child (or more accurately adolescent) actor, I believe it was on the show “Freaks and Geeks”.
