Setting up a home chapel/prayer room

My wife and I have been talking about setting up a prayer room in our house for a while now, and we have decided to finally do it, using an area of our basement, where we will build a small enclosed room. We are thinking about the main pieces of furniture we will need, a kneeler or two, maybe a short pew, and an altar table of some sort. Really would like to try to purchase an antique kneeler and pew if we can find some at reasonable prices (we have seen them for sale on ebay), but we’re not really sure about what to use for the altar table. Looking for something that we can just buy and not have to build ourselves, thinking a table that has some height to it verses a standard table, and kind of wide but not too deep, so it can accomodate many different religious items. Would appreciate any ideas from those who have done the same in their home.

Check around and see if you can find a good Library table. I think there is a rule against having a ‘chapel’ per se in your home, but a meditation room is OK. Some churches store ‘old stuff’ in their basements. Ask Father. Not sure 'though. Good hunting for what you need. Peace.

I would also love to see a picture as well when it is done. I don’t have any suggestions but subscribed to this thread to gather ideas to do the same.

I didn’t mean to imply a chapel, just a quiet prayer room would be a better description. Don’t hold your breath about seeing a picture when its complete, lol, with me it usually takes much time.:yawn: I’ve been putting off finishing painting one bedroom wall for…

Don’t forget to pipe in some climate control. You don’t want to worry about suffocating or freezing during prayer, unless of course your after a monastic ascetic experience!
