Honestly, please forgive my ignorance, honestly.

Does Jerusalem have seven hills.

What are the seven hills?

Are the seven hills in Jerusalem or in Judea?

Thank you!!!

I don’t know how many hills Jerusalem or Judea have.

Are you asking in reference to Revelation 17:9? If so, the interpretation most commonly given is that it’s a reference to ancient Rome. Sometimes I think of it as a reference to the seven continents in the context of the final worldwide apostasy.

There seems to be some support for the idea that Jerusalem was built on seven mountains or hills. However, there seems to be some disagreement as to which mountains or hills constitute the seven. For instance, one online source says:Jerusalem was a large city spreading beyond the walls of the fort and onto the seven hills there during the time of Jesus and the Apostles. It’s seven hills are; 1.) Mount Gared; 2.) Mount Goath; 3.) Mount Acra; 4.) Mount Bezetha; 5.) Mount Moriah; 6.) Mount Ophel; 7.) Mount Zion. Sometimes, some will substitute the first four with the Mount of Olives, Mount of Offence, Mount of Evil Counsel, and Mount Calvary. (source)

Others have pointed to the idea that “seven” references a covenant oath.

Might the “seven hills” refer not to something literal, but to the idea that Jerusalem (assuming it speaks of Jerusalem and not Rome) was supposed to be built on a covenant, but were violating and rejecting that covenant, by not accepting Jesus as the Messiah?

Also that the beast with seven heads (Rev 17:3) was a mockery of the covenant and that the woman had actually made a covenant with the devil?

Interesting guess work, but guess work none-the-less.

God bless.

Your ideas are the next step.

Your ideas remind me of Origen, in the good sense.

Are you a priest.

Thanks

Yes, Jim. For the Archdiocese of Omaha.

I think this is the first time I have ever been compared to Origen - in the good or bad sense 😉 .

I am confident that there were seven hills that surrounded Jerusalem at the time of Christ.

I have found several independent sources that teach that.

I think that I can trust Dr. Hahn and the other writers.
