Is it appropriate for a Catholic parish to invite leaders from neighboring churches for an ecumenical “Seven last words service” on Good Friday? I have not heard of this until recently and I am wondering if this is something new. Any light you can shed on it would be most appreciated, thank you.

I have never heard of it in a Catholic parish. There is a Good Friday Liturgy used there. The seven last words service is done mostly in non-liturgical Main Line Protestant churches, Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational UCC.

I’ve participated in intercommunion Holy Week praying the stations of the cross in public procession w/ nearby Catholic and Episcopal parishes.

Many Lutherans follow the Liturgy of Good Friday but I’m sure the noonday meditation on the last seven words is still common.
