A woman given the death penalty by our government, for no crime.

I remember these tragic events very well. As a person who lives with a disability, I was appalled that the courts could order the murder of an innocent person by dehydration simply because society judged her life as having “no value.” In part, it was Bl. John Paul II’s protest against Terri Schiavo’s murder which influenced my ultimate decision to convert to Catholicism. The Catholic Church seemed to be the only organization, other than some disability rights groups, which spoke out on Terri’s behalf. The fact that society can murder an innocent person in this way should give us all pause, wether we are disabled or not. Eventually we will all grow old. When that time comes, do we really want our lives to be judged as being of “no value” simply because we may be old and infirm? If so, may God have mercy on us all!

Bl. August von Galen … Pray for us!
