This is why I’m disgusted with women’s magazines in general. I would love to see a magazine for young girls that yes, had good points about fashion, but also talked about how to maintain friendships, how to excel in school, apply for jobs/college/scholarships, gave real role models (not Paris Hilton), etc.

I’d love to see a magazine for women that focused more on women’s achievements in all fields (as well as the positives about being a SAHP), music, entertainment, issues in politics and healthcare (especially those that concern women), etc. Sadly, the only one that even comes close is Ms., which is very pro-choice.

Yes, modesty and chastity are important things to emphasize but there are other things too. Young girls need to realize that it’s not weird to be smart, that it’s a wonderful quality, that they should choose a major and a career that interests them, because God gave us our passions and talents for a reason. They should be more focused on school in high school, not boys, social events, or fashion. They should know that God made them because He loved them and loves them still, that they should take charge of their own lives and allow God to control what they can’t.

If I have girls, I’d want them to realize that, and I want them to follow their full potential as women of God. I want them to realize that chastity is beautiful and that any man worth his salt will wait (and that boys need to be chaste too!!! Chastity is not just a woman’s quality!!!). I want them to work to their fullest potential and to not let anyone but their own abilities tell them they can’t go far in school or a career. I want them to know that their fertility is beautiful but that it is meant for a marital relationship only and it’s up to God how many kids He chooses to give them (though they can use NFP). I want them to be strong, confident, and secure in the love that Jesus Himself gives and to use that love, combined with their talents, to serve Him.

I want girls to realize that they should serve God with everything they have and realize that they can make contributions, whether to the world, to the home, or to both (regardless of how the world sees it) and that their work is not to be devalued for any reason, but especially because of their gender. And I really wish there was a magazine like that.

In a recent issue of Seventeen, an American magazine aimed at teenage girls which discusses fashion trends, celebrities and lifestyle choices, the writers encourage young girls to go behind their parents’ backs in order to procure birth control pills and to support the work of Planned Parenthood. Read here:

This magazine, which is highly impressionable on all young girls in their formative teens, has crossed the line. Even though the writers answer a question specifically asked by a 19 year old girl, there seems to be little regard for girls as young as 13 and 14 who also have subscriptions or their parents.

Girls already have enough pressures during their teens, especially in a society that values their bodies and not their mentality. In addition, teenagers are naturally insecure about discussing life issues with their parents. Rather than simply encouraging these young girls to discuss such issues with their parents, much less advocating chastity, the magazine opens the door for girls of all ages to discontinue their relationship with mom and dad for the sake of a tiny pill and the possibility to procure one of over 50 STDs.
Agreed. At one time Seventeen was an interesting magazine filled with genuinely uplifting articles about teenage entrepreneurs, advice for college prep, and what it’s like to live in different areas of the world.

But almost all the print and electronic media was taken over by Satan long ago. And the problem is very real.

As Fadda Corapi says, “Satan wants your kids dead in a dumpster.” 😦

the womens forum gave a talk about this mag last year. and they gave one also during WYD this year!!

I saw a thread awhile ago that said the True Girl magazine was back in circulation. I can’t remember the website, though. Maybe a search will turn it up.

I just do what my parents did, not buy the magz…they didn’t care if they were cool or everyone in my class had them when I was a teen, they didn’t care that I didn’t look cool, as they said to me before: “there is enough garbage going around in the world and tv for you to have more garbage in your own hands!!!” So I didn’t care…I watch tv and all these things are out there that make my daughter question and want to “grow” up too fast, but I speak with my daughter clearly and she has understood the ways a little better, at least I am hoping to be laying a positive foundation for her!

I am a Christian I am baptist but I do not hate Catholics We both worship Jesus and God but I just wanted to say that we had a lady come to my church from our local my choices clinic you see it was name sav-a-life at first but bc so many girls wouldn’t come bc of the name they changed it to my choices so girls or women would want to come they so not do abortions and do not support abortions but anyways that lady came to talk about pro life at my church and said that the Girl Scouts are now being taught that abortion is ok and even teaching them about planned parenthood clinics. Doesn’t the name “planned parenthood” sound so nice? Well it’s not its a bad place and now they are even teaching our young ones that abortion is ok! I believe in saying no to abortion! I believe that if you get pregnant but don’t want your baby do not abort it but have it full term and give it up for adoption. When you get pregnant it’s already alive inside your uterus. I live in a state that only has one abortion clinic left open and we Christians in my state are fighting so hard to have it shut down! It hurts me so much that despite the pictures of the bloody aborted torn apart babies they still think a head with eyes ears a nose and mouth little fingers and toes and legs and arms isnt a living being yet 😦 and they are even aborting them when they are full term and out of the womb they will break that poor innocent baby’s neck and kill it I really wish abortion had never been invented or thought of! It’s so sad!!
