I have had a quick glance at the other posts and thought I would add my tuppence worth. (For what that is worth…)
I know quite a few SDA’s, and most of them eat a little meat from time to time, but one of them told me once that one of the reasons they become vegetarian / reduce the amount of meat, is because they believe their nervous system is a way of keeping in tune with God. If their nervous system is clogged up with saturated fats (animal products) or dulled with alcohol etc, then their bodies are going to be less in tune with God. They are very concious of getting enough sleep and keeping fit.
I may not agree with their religious beliefs, but I guess I can appreciate some of their reasoning in keeping a healthy mind and body to help keep in tune with God.
As to your friend…please give her space to grow and adapt. If you try to bring her back to the Church right now, you may lose her friendship. Try also to accept her dietry choices; the same way you would a friend on a diet. She needs your support now as she is going through a confusing time (Regardless of whether it seems like it or not…from one who knows the angst religious upheaval has on you) In time you may be able to debate her choice, but now is not the time. All you can do is pray and bide your time.
I pray God helps you and your friend through this quickly.
Peace and love to you and your loved ones.
