do you know what she wrote about Catholics?
I do, the SDA claims the Catholic Church changed the Sabbath Day based on a vision from Ellen White, is the Whore of Babylon and other such claims.

My experience with SDA posters is they do a big song and dance around the fact they claim Ellen White as a prophetess yet her writings are instrumental in their teachings.

Mary.

I wasn’t sure if it was Ellen White herself who had taught anti-catholicism or if that teaching had developed later.

Given Ellen White states the Pope/Beast changed the Sabbath day, I believe it was Ellen White who began the anti Catholic sentiments.

Ellen White’s Visions of the Pope Changing the Sabbath to Sunday

EGW: “I saw that God had not changed the Sabbath, for He never changes. But the Pope had changed it from the seventh to the first day of the week: for he was to change time and laws.” A Word to the Little Flock, “A Vision, April 7, 1847”, p. 18.

EGW: "In a view given June 27, 1850, My accompanying angel said, "Time is almost finished. …“The Pope had changed the day of rest from the seventh to the first day of the week.” Early Writings, “Mark of the Beast”, p. 65.

thanks. do they predict end times like Jehovah’s Witnesses?
I would think since she was a woman they would have no problem ordaining women. they are nice people, but pretty definitely anti-catholic. I don’t know if it is a requirement to be beleve that way.

Yes they are very, very anti catholic but they don’t see as being offensive about it. EGW is a big part of their teachings. They will tell you right away oh I don’t read what she teaches, but when you speak with them, they always quote her.

Miller and EGW were cofounders of the SDA Church, Miller predicted that the world would end in 1844, which as we know was not true.

This is a Church that is very close minded, and the nice people that they have become really stubborn with what they are taught.

They accept abortion, contraception, then it looks like they’ll be accepting women as pastors. I read that last year, there was going to be a divide within the SDA church due to the gay marriage issue.

The Branch Davidians recognized a woman as a prophet, but they were the Branch Davidians – hardly mainstream even by adventist standards!

Ellen was raised a Methodist and as such was a Trinitarian…
…Ellen eventually married James White ( a staunch anti-Trinitarian ).
…In an effort to please her husband Ellen began teaching anti-Trinitarianism.

Things such as Christ had desires to sin so that He could “feel the pull of sin”…
…Things such as Christ ‘could have’ sinned & lost His Salvation.
…Whereby ‘God’ would have eternally annihilated Christ.

Stuff like that.

Even with their quirks; I am shocked that this would even be up for discussion with the SDAs.

Unbelievable.

they accept abortion?!!! that is all I need to hear - no more!

The world is moving on towards greater equality and greater justice, and that hopefully will include the SDA this Wednesday. As Martin Luther King liked to say, quoting the 19th century abolitionist Theodore Parker, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” 🙂

My mom is still SDA and I haven’t heard a word of this. But I’m not sure most members of the church I used to attend pay much attention to church politics. To be honest, I didn’t even know they didn’t ordain women until this thread.

Given Ellen White is instrumental in their teachings and their self proclaimed prophetess, I am not surprised they would entertain female clergy.
