In fact, what I have been doing is getting you to do is to answer a simple question.
My bad… I’ll try to stay on track!
You gave three from an unknown source. Which source and which one is being applied?
Not unknown and all three apply… Look up in your dictionary, tell me what yours says and we’ll go with that.
The Bible says: Matthew 27:34 “They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.”
So, EGW agrees with the Bible.
You got me there–you win!
In case you didn’t know it that Mary was NOT the mother of Jesus; where is the evidence for the claim that Mary “turned away” from Jesus?
Oops you got me again!
When the disciples, not Mary, bear her away “from the cruel scene”?
Alright, where is that in the Bible? That she ever looked away.

Thank-you! You have truly been helpful!

Mine is a long long story too. I’d be happy to share but have to go to work and can’t post much now.

I was a senior at an Adventist college and started realizing a lot of what they were presenting as historical fact wasn’t actually supported by real history. Also, I had problems with them missrepresenting Catholic beliefs to bolster their own positions. (e.g. “Catholics worship Mary” , “the Catholic Church through Constantine changed the sabbath and forced Chrisitans to accept a pagan day…” ) You know the stories. If you’ve looked at Dale Ratzlaf’s materials, you probably know by now how many Adventists positions are based on falsehoods. I really like Dale Ratzlaf and have participated in some related former SDA forums. It helps to vent a bit about the frustrations of leaving Adventism. The other participants are almost all evangelical with some mixed pentecostalism and fundamentalism. That presents a challenge as many there have emailed me trying to convert me away from Catholicism rather than talk about Adventist issues.

I love it that there are beginning to be Catholic resources for ex Adventists online. There are a surprising number of us.

anyway, more later,

MarysRoses
hi mary…did u go to an sda academy, too?..i lived at sunnydale academy for 13 years and i am interested in talking with other ex-sda faculty kids…or even just ex-sda academy students in general…my sisters all went to union college…fd

The advantage of vagueness is that there’s nothing that can be pinned down and verified, or disproven.
missrepresenting Catholic beliefs to bolster their own positions. (e.g. “Catholics worship Mary” , “the Catholic Church through Constantine changed the sabbath and forced Chrisitans to accept a pagan day…”
  1. I’ve never heard anyone claim that these are Catholic beliefs. 2) I’ve never heard any SDA claim the first remark. 3) The first part of the last remark is an over-simplification of what happened. 4) I’ve never heard any SDA ever teach or claim that Constantine “forced Christians to accept a pagan day.” The change over from Sabbath to Sunday was a gradual one that started ab’t 135 A.D… Most Christians except those in Rome and Alexandria were still keeping the Sabbath at least as late as the 5th century.
If you’ve looked at Dale Ratzlaf’s materials, you probably know by now how many Adventists positions are based on falsehoods.
There’s a Japanese proverb that is quite applicable to his works: if you believe everything you read, then you shouldn’t read.

in my personal experience of living in an area which has a good amount of sda followers i would have to say it is a pseudochristian, hate filled(toward anyone who is not sda),‘know-all’,hypocritical,brainwashing cult.
i have seen good christian minded people change their whole way of life overnight after converting and suddenly forming beliefs completely different to how they have always believed and showing a very ferocious hatred towards anyone who questions their turn of belief.good friends become ‘evil enemies’ for simply not agreeing on petty situations.

hi d.j…myself, and the entire student body at sunnydale were taught that catholics worshipped mary…in fact, that was one of the arguements given me when i asked the pastor why the sda was so against catholicism…another thing the sda liked to do was read to us from “foxes book of martyrs”…im not really sure that its good material for 3rd graders…they even brought the book wrapped in tinfoil because, supposedly, any catholic who saw the book would be compelled to steal it…how asinine…fd

hi aussie…good call…what would u call a religion that was based on a failed prophecy?..and where did miller get the arrogance to presume he WAS a prophet?..of course after god didnt show up in 1844 he simply revised the prophecy…how convenient…a lot of their stuff is extra-biblical, also…written by their fake prophet e.g.white…how do i know this?..my parents were faculty at an sda academy and i lived on campus for 13 years…i have 2 sisters who also grew up there…both are now non-theists and i am a non christian…so what does that say about the sda indoctrination?..fd:D

If they awere like that and we aren’t told where this mythical area is then they were Christians or SDA’s.

When I was in the hospital recovering from surgery (in St. Paul, MN; I believe the hosptial was St. John’s.) a RCC priest came in to visit my roommate. After he left I told my roommate that I was just about to tell him to leave because of all the swearing he was doing. He resooinded that he was going to tell him the same thing!

When my dad was remodeling our church a neighobr who was RCC came over and helped him a great deal.

When I was homeless in NYC I stayed at a shelter run by Sister Teresea’s nuns in the Bronx. They knew me so well that when I went downstairs and put my coat on because I was feeling chilled and found a crack pipe in my pocket (they had to tell me what it was!) they knew it wasn’t mine. The only negative experience was when I came down with food posioning and needed to change my clothes they almost weren’t going to let me in because they were “busy” doing their prayers.

I’ve had mostly good experiences with Catholics.

.and where did miller get the arrogance to presume he WAS a prophet?..
William Miller never, ever claimed to be a prophet. Who told you that he did? Why did you believe them? This is kind of like when Rush Limbaugh claimed that there are more trees now than when Columbus landed–when he was shown he was wrong he simply claimed someone else told him that–and he fell for it.
of course after god didnt show up in 1844 he simply revised the prophecy…
He didn’t do that either–you were lied to, again.

Thanks for the lies–they are going on my list ab’t lies people tell about the SDA church. Your identity will remain anonymous.
my parents were faculty at an sda academy and i lived on campus for 13 years…i have 2 sisters who also grew up there…both are now non-theists and i am a non christian…so what does that say about the sda indoctrination?..
This is called hear-say and gossip-mongering. The latter is condemned in the Bible as well.

Lots of ex-SDA’s become non-theists because they know that there is no other denomination which is teaching as much of the Bible as the SDA church does and they won’t surrender their hearts to God and let Him win the victory over their sins.

BTW, when refering to yourself you should have learned to capitalize the “I”–like aussie failed to do also.

  1. Sunnydale where? Why the reticence to be more forthcoming?
  2. Until you mentined it I had never heard any SDA teach that Catholics worship the Virgin Mary.
  3. I had never heard of Foxe’s Book of Martyr’s till about a dozen or so years ago. And I still haven’t seen it or read it.
  4. I was doing an exegeis and ran it through a grammer checker–the text (Hosea 6:1-3) was written at the 3rd grade level. You also need to remember that even in the mid-1800s most people were uneducated (1-2 grades in US and Britain).
  5. How would wrapping a book in tinfoil keep people from stealing it? If there was any logic to that then they should do it to the most stolen book in the world! That’s the Bible. Any eyewitnesses to this?

im sorry for not disclosing the location i just thought as i dont think there are a great number of australians on this website i didnt think saying the place was very important.but to clear that up…the central coast region of new south wales.
i thought my post made it quite clear the people i was talking about were sda followers not christians.in all honesty i cannot call sda christian as from what i have witnessed and experienced they do not follow the teachings of christ

SDA’s are Christian, period. They believe in the Trinity, the virgin birth of Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again on the 3rd day.
the central coast region of new south wales.
A little more specific; how about being more precise? Which town, or village are you talking about? Who is the pastor in that area? What is the name of the church they got to?

New South Wales
Albury Seventh-day Adventist Church - Albury, NSW, Australia
Avondale Memorial SDA Church - Cooranbong, NSW, Australia
Blacktown SDA Church - Blacktown, NSW, Australia
Bray Park SDA Church - Murwillumbah, NSW, Australia
Castle Hill SDA Church - Castle Hill, NSW, Australia
Central Coast Community Seventh-day Adventist Church - Wyong, NSW, Australia
Chatswood Seventh-day Adventist Church - Chatswood, NSW, Australia
Croatian Language Pages
Fox Valley SDA Church - Wahroonga, Sydney, Australia
Gosford SDA Church - Gosford, NSW, Australia
Kellyville Adventist Community Church - Kellyville, NSW, Australia
Maitland SDA Church - Maitland, NSW, Australia
Nelson Bay Seventh-day Adventist Church - Salamander Bay, NSW, Australia
Port Macquarie Seventh-day Adventist Church - Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia
Sydney Chinese SDA Church - Strathfield, Sydney NSW, Australia
Sydney - Thornleigh SDA Church - Sydney, NSW, Australia
Sydney - Waitara SDA Church - Sydney, NSW, Australia
Woollahra Seventh-day Adventist Church - Woollahra, NSW, Australia
Wyee SDA Church - Wyee, NSW, Australia

Why are you so afraid to tell us?

SDA’s are Christian, period. They believe in the Trinity, the virgin birth of Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again on the 3rd day.

thats all well and good but didnt christ teach to follow the commandment of love your neighbour as yourself.gee, if they follow that they would really have to hate themselves a great deal to show a great deal of hatred to other christians.

A little more specific

if you knew that area youd know that is very specific but anyway

Avondale Memorial SDA Church - Cooranbong, NSW, Australia
Central Coast Community Seventh-day Adventist Church - Wyong, NSW, Australia
Gosford SDA Church - Gosford, NSW, Australia
Wyee SDA Church - Wyee, NSW, Australia

those along with many smaller congregations in the area

mabye you could tell me why so many sda followers believe that people have to conform to thier particular beliefs in order to procede past this life.they who have only been around since the 1800’s.those that hold such animosity to believers of beliefs that have been around much longer.
there are many discrepancies between the beliefs of different denominations of christianity but the majority still respect each other and their differences through a very important part of what christianity is about…charity.love for your neighbour is also a part of that respect.until sda can respect christian denominations views and beliefs without showing hatred then i ,among others, will not see them as christian.
remember respecting does not have to mean agreeing…just accepting the fact that there are differences in faiths

if you knew that area youd know that is very specific but anyway
On par with me saying I was in a Catholic church in MN.

ARGH! The grammar hurts my eyes! Don’t they teach you down there to put a space after a sentence and to capitalize the first word of each sentence?
  1. If you wish to be a Christian then you must believe as the Bible says. So, the SDA church has the right to say that if you wish to belong to their church that you must believe in what the Bible says.
  2. The fact that the denomination has only been around since 1800 is irrelevant.
  3. In the SDA churches I have been to the pastors have pointedly told the congregants that there are sincere believers in God in every denomination. We don’t even belive that all SDA’s will be saved.
remember respecting does not have to mean agreeing…just accepting the fact that there are differences in faiths
That concept is not biblical–that comes from the man-made philsophy of the Enlightment.
i ,among others, will not see them as christian.
Since we already do then given what you said in the above quote you’ve just proven you are in the wrong.

William Miller never, ever claimed to be a prophet. Who told you that he did? Why did you believe them? hey thanks for correcting my capitalization…thats a nice ploy to try and make me look bad…so is comparing me with limbaugh…nice try…of course i was lied to, i was at an adventist school where lies were their forte…of course my identity is anonymous…so is yours and everyone elses…btw…im not a non-theist, im just not a christian…correcting peoples grammar isnt an arguement…its an attempt to distract from the arguement at hand…how is something hearsay and gossipmongering when it happened to me?..sunnydale academy is in missouri…does that make it easier for u?..google away…fd

there is no reticence on my part…its not too difficult…i went to an academy named sunnydale so about 10 seconds worth of googling will take u there…how long have u been hanging with the sda anyway?..because u are not familiar with it doesnt mean that it doesnt exist, but of course u already know that…i have no idea why tinfoil was used anymore than i can explain other sda paranoid behavior…hahaha…of course there are witnesses…im 46, so it would be about 30 years ago…of course when i dont whip up some old alumnas u will say that i am unable to prove my arguements…nice try, though…just because a truth is un comfortable doesnt mean its not the truth …fd

there is no reticence on my part…its not too difficult.
Australia is a big country. New Wales is a big province.
…i went to an academy named sunnydale so about 10 seconds worth of googling will take u there
Sunnaydale means nothing to those of us who didn’t go there, or live in the area. Once I pinned you down then I can google it and find where you are talking about.
how long have u been hanging with the sda anyway?
About 45+ years.
because u are not familiar with it doesnt mean that it doesnt exist, but of course u already know that
I didn’t say that it didn’t exist.
of course there are witnesses.
Name some that are still in the church and which church they go to.
just because a truth is un comfortable doesnt mean its not the truth …fd
EGW once noted that we have nothing to fear from the truth; I have found that to be very true. It is the critics of the Bible, Ellen G. White and the SDA church that have to watch out.

hey thanks for correcting my capitalization.
Your’re welcome–at least Ican say that I tried.
thats a nice ploy to try and make me look bad.
No effort required.
so is comparing me with limbaugh…nice try.
I didn’t compare you with him–I gave him as a similar instance, or like example.
i was at an adventist school where lies were their forte.
Prove it.
.of course my identity is anonymous…so is yours and everyone elses.{/quote]I can’t speak for others, my name is David J. Conklin.
correcting peoples grammar isnt an arguement.
I didn’t say that it was. OTOH, when the poor grammar gets in the way …
…its an attempt to distract from the arguement at hand.
Ever heard of the phrase “the medium is the message”?
.how is something hearsay and gossipmongering when it happened to me?
Because we have no way of confirming any of it. As such it wouldn’t be allowed in a court of law, nor should it be used to poison the well of public opinion.
sunnydale academy is in missouri…does that make it easier for u?..google away…fd
Hmm, went to academy in Missuori and are now in Australia? BTW, that’s only a grade school (9-12).

Your’re welcome–at least Ican say that I tried.

lmao…where did u get the idea that im from australia?..i live in illinois…lolol…the school was in missouri…an academy named sunnydale…ergo…sunnydale academy…its sunnydale…not sunnaydale…haha…i have no idea where those people are…i never went anywhere near there after i left…i was to busy serving my country and getting an education…as opposed to an indoctrination…hmmm…what do i need to watch out for?..that threat is typical sda behavior though…as in “how dare u question my prophets credibility”…but thanks for illustrating that point…fd
