I am against abortion because the Church is against abortion. Even if not for that, I would, in general, be against aborting anyway because it enables women to be promiscuous. However, what is the defense against the idea of killing babies with severe deformities? Why does God want people who can’t be useful to others to live? What use does God have for them?
(Yes, I know “only God has the right to take their lives.” Why do we have the right to let them live?)
By the way, I am not referring to people with mental disorders or very low intelligence. I am talking about people born in a vegetative state.

I would hope also because it means killing an unborn child.

But to answer the question at hand, all human life is inherently holding the right to life. It is not something that is dependent on an accidental quality or usefulness.

For them to offer up their suffering for the salvation of souls, perhaps.

Utilitarianism is not a moral position to take on life no matter if a child is deformed or not

I have a general idea that utilitarianism is bad, but what is a proper refutation of it?

It’s up to God to take life. We don’t have the right to infringe on that

No one is to make the judgement call that the life of the weaker is worth any less than that of the stronger. That is up to God.

There’s nothing a dodgy weblink is going to tell me that will contradict the overwhelming scientific consensus against your view. If you can reference a serious scientific study then i’ll happy read it but your view is counter-factual.

What if that (to you) severe deformity is something that God gives to a person so that he/she can obtain the highest heaven? None of us can see beyond our noses. God’s ways are not our ways, and we have to accept that. However, God promises us that whatever suffering he gives us (we all have suffering of some type) he will also give us the means to bear it. Suffering, accepted from a loving God, is the path to heaven. Who are we to deny that path to someone and tell them “your life is not worth living?” That’s a fuzzy compassion that is not true love of neighbor.

Eh, when I asked the question, I meant people in vegetative states who are unable to be productive or even understand the concept of God. I know their lives should be preserved, I just want to know the reason behind it.

What have you got? I’ll learn.
Start with “The Modern Scholar: Evolutionary Psychology: The Science of Human Nature” by Allen MacNeill. That’ll give you a nice overview of all the relevant studies along with a nice narrative to tie them together.

I guess I won’t learn then. I don’t buy books and I don’t pirate. (All the good stuff is old and all the old stuff is free, though this may just be the sour grapes of a young miser.)

That’s like deflecting blame from a drug user because of the existence of the dealer.
