I thought it meant sewers in the usual sense too, at first. But a moment’s thoought let me realize it was more likely to be a thread for seamers/seamstresses/tailors/textile designers, so I clicked to find out.

My wife and I got a very nice old Signature sewing machine last year through freecycle, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to thread the thing! Does anyone know of a website that gives step-by-step visuals for how to thread one?

Often a diagram showing how to thread the machine is inside the hinged door that runs along the upper far left side of the machine. (Sorry, I am forgetting the exact terminology.)

Several years ago, we had a notice in our church bulletin that
was titled in BIG letters: SEWERS NEEDED. I was one of those
who was early for Mass and was reading the bulletin and couldn’t
help but give out a little giggle and then heard soft giggles as others read the bulletin.
Yeah, they were looking for people to sew items for the Christmas
Bazaar!!!
As for the sale mentioned, I plan on checking the patterns out,

The hard part is modifying the original design to take out the fake plumber’s crack. You have to really know your measurements…

That is in the Mario Brothers pattern ? I did not know. I did find it though on e-bay, just saw the front cover of the pattern though.

My husband suggested a pair of overalls, a t-shirt and a tool-belt for a plumber, it would be pretty easy to recreate the pipe wrench out of sturdy cardboard and paint so the child wouldn’t have to carry the real tools around - that would be so heavy.

Okay, we are waay off topic here. Maybe we should start a new thread about costumes for dress-up, make believe play and Halloween!

Ah, sew! [looking…] Oh, darn. The diagram there only shows how to work the pattern elongator knob.

I’d buy a manual if I could find one. The model is a Signature UHT J 285 C. Frustratingly, it’s not on the Montgomery Ward site. The only other reference I can find online is a blogger who also had trouble finding info.

Anybody interested in tackling this? I’d be happy to send a photo of the innards of the machine. Maybe somebody can put little “1-2-3” arrows on the picture to help me out.

I’m too used to dummy instruction lists. I really thought there would be a knob with the label saying “place spool here” and a set of arrows showing me where to place the thread and in what order.
