Why per say just because something is in the OLD testament does that make it no longer applicable?

Bloodborne disease's have always been around, like Hepatitis etc., , the Bible clearly says a woman is unclean then, and I agree.
Also, how about the fact that maybe a woman-(and most I know don’t care too) would rather WAIT until it is all done and overwith before resumming a healthy sex life.

At worst, it’s uncomfortable to do so then, as natural lubricants are not “present” as during the time between periods, as well as the fact SHE has to, like someone else said, do the laundry, instead of resting like we would ALL like to do then! Because during this time women have headaches, backaches, bloating, cramps, as well as all over body aches, and sex can and DOES make these symptoms WORSE!

Most of these posts are by men=aren’t we supposed to respect our spouse’s at least as much as other people we see everyday-hopefully MORE SO=but I am beginning to wonder from all these thoughtless posts, unless your own comfort & desire’s are more important than respecting your loved one’s body=looks to me like it is.

I hope you all “rethink” & respect your spouse…M:confused:
If you don’t like it, then don’t do it. That’s your choice. As for me personally, sex while on my period not only relieves many symptoms of my menstrual cycle, but I love the emotional experience of it more. The only consideration we have to have for cleanliness is putting down an old towel, taking a shower afterwards, and cuddle in bed a little less afterwards. 🤷

It’s different for every woman, so be sure (if you’re a man) that she’s okay with it.

“it’s different for every woman, so be sure (if your a man) that she’s okay with it”

I totally agree with this, and not just during menstration but every single time you make love, if she doesn’t want to, if she isn’t sure if she wants to or even if she says yes but doesn’t seem that into it, then don’t, and if she says yes but then wants to stop make sure you stop imediately. Make sure your wife wants to before doing anything and just because your married never gives you a right to her body, its her body and therefore her choice every single time.

Well said. Thanks for saying that you dont find it gross. It is what it is. It’s a bit odd when some people insist that all parts of childbirth are beautiful and amazing and not gross at all etc etc, but periods, which naturally occur in almost every woman whether or not she has or will ever have children, are.

would any health consequences occur as a result?
Dont think so. Diseases and viruses dont spring up out of nowhere. If the woman is ‘clean’ normally (as in STI or STD free) then being on her period doesn’t make her any more ‘unclean’.

In Leviticus 20, it’s written that sex during menstruation is a serious sin. Leviticus also condemns other grave sins like incest, homosexuality and bestiality, but it strikes me oddly enough that sex during periods is included in the list. Mensturation falls into the infertile period of the woman, which is naturally accepted by NFP. So why not during the periods?
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I’m not telling that I want to do it, I just want to know whether it’s permitted or not. I’m not trying to use it as birth control.
My becoming wife has always painful periods, I want to try out (after our marriage of course) whether having sex during that time will help her too relax herself and reduce the pain a bit. But like I told, I just wanna know what’s the stance of the church regarding this topic.
Are you sure? You started another thread asking “How many days a month to abstain from sex with NFP?” You said that
I can’t abstain for that long every month
So which is it? You want to have relations during her period because you are trying to help her cramps or because it believe that she is not fertile during that time or because you just can’t wait that long?

I personally don’t find childbirth gross either because its natural (how else can you naturally have children (other that cesarian)). There will however be alot of blood and other natural things (not pretty to look at but all natural) but if your wife is giving birth you should be there to support her, hold her hand and tell her she’s doing great, rub her back or help her keep cool with a cold damp flannel (wash cloth), in short just be there for her, support her any way you can and do anything you can to try and make childbirth a little more bearable, although it will still obviously be painful for her.

I’m a 22 year old guy and I don’t see what is “gross” about menstration, as it is a compleatly natural, normal part of life for women (until menopause). Surely something created by god could never been seen as “gross” but another beautiful part of gods creation? I hope that makes sense as I only recently found god.
Yeps, that’s what I also think. I don’t see it as gross. I’m sad to see how some religions (I won’t mention names) treat women when they are in their periods.
I would have absolutly no problem doing the laundry, I would want an equal relationship with my (future) wife and that means me doing laundry, ironing, cooking, changing nappies, getting up during the night with the children, doing the dishes etc I want my (future) wife to be an equal not running around tidying up after me, we are both adults, both parents and therefore both equally responsible for the housework and the children.
You could try giving her a hot drink such as hot chocolate as hot drinks can help, but try to avoid caffeine, a hot water bottle can help soothe the pain or even a massage (when your married) hope that helps her a bit, although these may not help as everyone is different so I would suggest asking her if there us anything you can do to help ease her pain.
Wow, you know I’m so happy to see that there are men like you. I feel proud of you. In the beginning of our relationship I have also told that when we get married, I will share have of the work of everything. We are man right, so no need to complain it’s too hard 😛
For sure you’ll be a good husband, keep it up 👍
This may or may not work. If she is prone to emotional tension it could work; but back massages are always great too! 👍

Depending on what your family plans are, if this seems like a persistent or “unbearable” problem, it might be worth it to learn NFP to see if there is another kind of medical issue going on. Charting might p(name removed by moderator)oint an issue that you could otherwise miss. Just an FYI.

Good luck to you!
Thanks! I’ll take your advises into consideration. I’ll try back massages also, and also might check later whether there might be a medical issue. Because it seems like she is ‘suffering’ more than the average woman.

First of all, I’m not telling that because it’s in OT it’s not applicable. I’m telling that not everything in OT is applicable. That’s something different 😉
Next, I respect my wife alot. I just want to try to see whether it relieves her pains, so mainly I’m doing it for her! If she doesn’t want, then no hesitations, I won’t do it at all 😉
For some it will relieve, for others it can make it worse. I will respect it. But like Whitacre_girl told, it doesn’t mean for every woman it will be worse.
I’m not telling through this topic that I love to have sex during menstruation. I wanted to know the church’s stance on it.

Seriously. A womans body is a beautiful thing in how it works, but there’s nothing beautiful in thick, glommy, smelly blood. According to my wife, at least.
Sheesh, don’t tell like that 😛 A woman is always beautiful 😉

Yeah, that’s what I also hope: for her to love the emotional experience and ease the tensions. Just putting a towel won’t be a problem no 😉 Indeed, taking a shower afterwards is of course important. And yeah, of course only if she wants it…

Exactly! I’ll respect and live according to that… it should be her choice and nothing else…

Good you’re asking it. I’ll be honest. This question (relations during periods) is to help her for her cramps. I didn’t ask it to have an excuses when she is not fertile that time. I’ll explain about that abstination matter a bit more in that topic 😉

Yet another point of view. Studies have shown that women who have orgasms during their menstruation are more likely to develop endometriosis. While our ancestors may not have had a grasp of modern medicine or statistical techniques, they were good diagnosticians.
I’ve seen stuff to the opposite, that sex during menstruation helps shed the stuff a little faster and by no means causes problems.

As for the topic at hand, I think its a silly thing indeed to follow Leviticus. It rules out Lasagna as a meal.

The NT instuction, Christ’s teaching and the 10 commandments are more than enough to guide us. The laws of Lev. are under the old covenant, we are not bound by that any more.

Vera, no lasagna? You won me over right there.

Biomechanically, the uterine contractions would help shed the lining, but they could also pump some of the lining out through the Fallopian gap and it could then settle on the peritoneum. This is referred to as retrograde menstruation. Some buy into it and others don’t. The Mayo Clinic website suggests this as a possible cause for at least pelvic endometriosis. If a woman had retrograde menstruation already, then orgasm could certainly exacerbate it.

Your post supports my point that it could be unhealthy.

The problem with it is that it’s suspected that most women experience some degree of retrograde menstruation, but not all of them will experience endometriosis. Sex may exacerbate retrograde menstruation, but for most women retrograde menstruation is not a problem.

Seems risky though. Is endometriosis serious or can it easily be cured? I wonder if theres anyway to decrease risks when having sex during menstruation.
