Sex for the elderly married

If marital sex is permissible only for procreation-what sex if any is open for those who past child bearing age? Couples in their 60’s 70’s?
 
Sex is unitive. It’s not ONLY for procreation, Every act must be OPEN to procreation, There’s a difference.

First, this is NOT correct.

Martial sex is for procreation AND consummating / re-consummating the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Ordered toward procreation does not mean just for procreation.
 
“Ordered towards” means you can’t use a hammer to fix my headache, you should use it to drive a nail like it’s designed.

Whether or not you have the capability to drive the nail all the way to it’s home is another matter.

Hey Franq, Name me one other way a married couple is able to show their total commitment and love of one another regardless of their age.

this is because sex outside of marriage is:
  1. incapable of consummating / re-consummating the Sacrament of Holy Communion
  2. most likely not an act open to procreation.
Very few people fornicate or commit adultery with the goal of getting pregnant or are extremely happy when they do. And again, when you commit fornication or adultery, you are not consummating / re-consummating your marriage.

The Catholic Church teaches that sex is a scared act because of my two points above. That’s why sex outside married defiles the sacredness of sex.

I should not have left the portion about “outside of marriage” Within a sacramental marriage. Many have e.d. or removed uterus etc. Do those conditions preclude any other types of marital acts.
Sir Knight, I question this because it has become a minefield for marriage encounters. Myn observation is the same as yours, but researching the subject tends to have a negative reaction to otherwise faithful Catholics. Some are competly turned off bythe very subject and unwiling to enter the discussion.
 
I find no fault with your answer Cajun… But more and more elderly want more than hugs, hand-holdlng etc. I see many couples with 50yrs+ of marriage, still showing an affecion that is absent in younger couples who seem to be in competition rather than love.
 
Thereby lies the root of the many discussions. The condition is too prevalent to ignore. Many women bring this to discussions wanting more but the CCC all but forbids anything else.
 
Excellent post thank you. My wife and I still hold hands, kiss each other goodnight and the last words we say to each other is " I love you" before we turn in.

The conjugal act is proper to marriage, even for the infertile, who do not intend willfully to exclude, however unlikely, the fruitful results, and similarly natural family planning can be morally acceptable since, as Pope Pius XII wrote:
The reason is that marriage obliges the partners to a state of life, which even as it confers certain rights so it also imposes the accomplishment of a positive work concerning the state itself. In such a case, the general principle may be applied that a positive action may be omitted if grave motives, independent of the good will of those who are obliged to perform it, show that its performance is inopportune, or prove that it may not be claimed with equal right by the petitioner—in this case, mankind.

Because older couples who are unable to have children are still morally able to have sex. Sex is for both Procreation and merging two into one flesh.

An infertile couple is doing nothing to impede a child being born. They are not interfering with God’s will. Actually, they are cooperating with it because God has determined that they are too old to have more children.

However, they could interfere with God’s will by asking some crazy doctor to perform In Vitro on them.

The sexual sin among married people happens when the couples tries to influence the outcome of sex via unnatural ways, or by “spilling the seed” (as the Jewish Rabbis & theologians often call it).
