[1 Cor 2:9] But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him”–👍

Thank you Ghosty, thank you all. I was just wondering what’s your point of view on that.

Btw, are there any church documents regarding Heaven?

…With the two purposes of sex gone, there will be no place for it…
Assuming that in heaven there is no new purpose for it. (or rather its original purpose restored maybe? Adam & Eve had genitals before the Fall after all. They ate too.)

Do we eat in Heaven? Do we touch, see, and smell?

We are both physical and spiritual creatures after all. It seems strange to go through the trouble of having a body for eternity if its functions are proscribed.

The bible?

I seriously dont know of any specific ones. Guess I can look since you are studying all the time;)

i do not think your post is negative. i just do not agree with the man who wrote that article.
So you think there will be sexual intercourse in heaven? Why?

Kreeft does not believe that there will be sexual intercourse in Heaven. There will be sex (in the true sense of the word-which means being male or female-“gender” until recently, applied only to words and things, not people) and there will “sexual pleasure” - but in the sense that our sexual pleasure is a foretaste of real pleasure in Heaven. Just as we might tell a child that sex is “sweet” because their highest pleasure is eating candy. Kreeft has said it many times over: asking whether or not there will be sexual intercourse in Heaven is like a child asking whether you can eat candy during sex. It’s a silly question. Even if we physically can, there is no reason why we would need to or even want to, considering the greater pleasure we have of simply being in Heaven.

It is a bad habit to judge someone’s viewpoint before you understand it.

**Do you think there will be sex in heaven? **
The better question to ask is, is sex possible in heaven (after we get our bodies back of course). The answer is yes, since sex is good and God does not take away good things. And the next logical question is, who can you have sex with, lets say you remarried after your wife died…the answer to that is Anyone!

This topic is covered in a great book:
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Heaven

I always thought that we would have no desire for sex because we would be caught up being immersed in God’s ecstatic presence to the point that everything else would be trivial in comparison.

So, no, there is no sex in heaven because no one would care enough to miss it.

Bingo. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible, technically speaking.

It would be like this: Lets say when you were growing up your favorite candy was a lolipop. Now fastfoward 20 years and you are at your wedding day. Lets say you are right about to cut the cake and share it with your wife and someone offers you that lolipop…do you desire it at that moment? No, likewise, when you have the Beatific vision, no other pleausre except being immeresed in God will be more pleasurable.

sex in heaven? Heavens no. Saints and angels there worship God without end… Sexually intercourse not needed there…

Yes, I think we won’t find it in Heaven. And good reasons were given.

Btw, but also the paradise with Adam and Eve was a great temple (cf Scott Hahn) - so it also was a place of worship. And there was sex (more perfect than we can have)

Hm. It’s just pure speculation… but did God intend to do away with sex weren’t it for Adam’s sin? I think yes… (I don’t want to complicate things 🙂 btw, it’s not very important though… 🙂 )

Hmm, yes, but…

It is also not clear that we will do nothing besides exclusively praising God every moment. Scripture and the Catechism both speak of us “reigning” with Christ (Rev. 22:5; CCC 1029). This suggests that we will have authority over and responsibility for things.

Seeing the propensity for crime and violent behaviour from men whose body produces too much testosterone, it seems [at least to some extent] that aggressive behaviour can part way be mitigated.

Logically then, we seem to produce vastly more than we need. That also fuels the sex drive. Is it not likely that without the need to procreate, we will produce just enough for body maintenance but not the excesses, so that the urges will not be anywhere near as strong.

With the endocrine system subdued, no doubt we will be distracted by other wonders that St Paul spoke about. 🙂

I still think it is too pat a solution to eliminate only certain body functions.

I was always taught (or at least my understanding of it) was that we would be restored to what we were pre-Fall.

…and with a renewed strength of spirit, see sex for what it is and not for what it isn’t! 🙂

Of course our body will have its full personal use. The thing about sex is that there’s no plausible reason to believe there would be a “new” purpose for it. Everything that sex provides (unitive and procreative) will either be fulfilled more fully, or be no longer necessary. Furthermore, there’s no grounds for believing in any kind of “new use” since the full function of sex is described by those two spheres.

As for Adam and Eve, they had genitals before the Fall, but they weren’t in Heaven prior to the Fall. They were in the state of perfect integral nature, but they weren’t experiencing the Beatific Vision; it’s impossible to Fall from the Beatific Vision, after all. Adam and Eve were meant to procreate before the Fall, and they would have later enjoyed the Beatific Vision. The Fall, of course, screwed everything up.

As for seeing and eating, those are functions that are required for the fullness of our personal nature; sex is not. We eat for the life of our physical body, and we see as the perfection of both our physical body and our soul (our soul learns and grows through sight), but sexual intercourse is only a perfection of the soul in the unitive aspect of it, and that will be had more perfectly by the direct unity of all souls in God. The beauty and fulfillment you feel with your wife will be shared among all the Saints, since the unitive aspect of sex is simply the foretaste of the true unity with God and among Saints.

Peace and God bless!

The elimination of certain bodily functions is only because their purpose is no longer present. We need food for the perfection of the body, we need to see and to hear and to smell for the perfection of the soul and the body. We only need sex to procreate and to spiritually unite. Since procreation will be eliminated, and spiritual union will be more perfect than the physical act of sex could ever provide, the bodily function of sexual intercourse will fall away.

Peace and God bless!

I’m curious…when someone dies, often we’ll hear at least one person mention that the person will be reunited in Heaven with his or her loved ones. One or two posters here mentioned no marriage in Heaven. Do you mean that when we get to Heaven we will not keep the sacrament of our marriages? Is this where the vow, “til death do us part” comes in?

I think I’ve read that we will be reunited with all our loved ones but our beings will be of a higher order and as such will be in glory and share the abundance of God’s love to sustain us. It will be a glory far above what we now know of as matrimony can provide.
