Interesting. Can a sacrament, such as Holy Matrimony, which *ex opere operato *infuses grace, be dissoluble?

surely The Moderators Must Realize The Utter Filth In This Thread??
I actually think the question is borderline sacreligious.

Why do the moderators allow so much sex talk on these boards?

Don’t they realize that much of it is just to polk fun and distract those of us who would want to engage in a truly spiritual discussion.

It sure cheapens this forum. 😦

Catholic parishes require prospective mates to undergo a Pre-Cana program. If the priest discovers that the couple is co-habiting, this often, although not necessarily, indicates fornication. Even if there is no fornication yet present, there is the near temptation of sin. I remember at least one priest telling me that, if he learns a couple is living together, he tells them that they must live separately until the wedding day.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I’d imagine he’d review the evidence and give reasons for why consummation can or cannot take place in a holy place, with attached reasons as to whether such an act is mortally good, evil or netural. I’d be interested in hearing his views on whether or not sex and holiness are completely incompatible in Christian theology.

I honestly don’t know. I’m sure we could just write him a letter in English laying out the contents of this thread in a more formal prose. It might take quite a while for him to get back to us. I remember sending a letter to my state senator, and it took at least 6 months to get a response. I sent one to the president (Clinton, I think) and didn’t get a response.

Well, I’m almost positive that the Pope is not as busy as the President, but somehow, I doubt he’ll answer us.

A question for those who may have a better understanding of canon law. Concerning the sacrament of marriage, is it against canon law for the wedded couple to consummate their marrage on holy ground, or in any Catholic sanctuary in general?

I find it interesting that most of all the other sacraments: Baptism, Confession, Confirmation, Eucharist, and Holy Orders find their completion in the church, but with Holy Matrimony, the marriage is not complete until it is consummated by the man and his wife.

Is the procreative act between man and woman perhaps too sinful for holy grounds? 🤷

Why not have a marriage room attached to the church? I know Eastern priests have been known to actually process to the wedded couples’ home, where the bed is blessed!

Thanks for your answers! 🙂
I have read a page or two on this thread its gotten out of hand people have forgotten what the question actually was or are juist reading bits and pieces of it…

OP was wondering if the consumation could take place on holy grounds, same as other sacraments, that answer is YES it can be, it need not be a show etc, but remember being on holy ground is not a requirement for any other sacrament except a marriage Unless permission has been granted to be off grounds.

Now lets addresssome other things, some countries or regions actually have laws making the couple have a witness to the consumation, much like midevil times.

Now why would someone want to consumate on holy grounds is beyond me, it would take a lot away from the initial union IMO
remember for many its a very special once in a lifetime moment
it is not something that should be timed, or have a time limit remember most folks have a reception after the ceremony, If you have true Faith God will be present be it in his home or yours.and will be there each and everytime you renew the marriage with the act…

to the person whom asked about phase 2 of NFP. well NFP should not be a consideration on wedding day, I couldnt think of too many reasons one would be practicing NFP on a wedding day except for health reasons only anything else would actually be abuse. remember for NFP to be within Gods will it must be being used for a valid reason would be very hard to be NON procreative deliberatly on wedding day dont you think???

Thank you everyone for your answers and thoughts! 😃

I really like that last post. Yeah, I was thinking about certain books and movies I’ve read in which the consummation (and sex in general) was not as privatized as it is today.

I looked to see if there were a Moderator online at present, but for some reason I don’t see any. The first one I see, I’ll pm him or her to stop this thread, as it seems several people here don’t like it.

Have a good night everyone!

:hug3:

I’m not sure I follow - maybe I’m not as familiar as I should be with NFP, but I can’t see the logic in allowing NFP on other days except the wedding day.
Question is: if Joseph were alive after the ressurrection (which he wasn’t:
We don’t know Joseph wasn’t alive at the time - that is merely tradition (and a pretty good guess, given what we know).

Using NFP for just cause, as the Church allows, is not “frivolous.” God allows human beings to cooperate with him in the creation of new human beings and he takes into account human free will in doing so. If a couple does not have just cause to use NFP and uses it for selfish reasons, the couple may be culpable for their selfishness,

the consumation act should be all about Gods process of 2 becoming one for the true procreative act, to "wait a few days because you may be fertile IMO would be against that, after all you picked a given Date to get married for a reason right?
could it be the holy spirit guided towards that date Because of a possible fertile time? many people think NFP is just allowable Birth control it is hardly that, its a approved process to space out births, or for those that could have hazzardous results from a pregnancy, it is not to be abused, all to often that part is forgotten.

it is because we were ashamed to be naked in front of God, the same attitude Adam and Eve were, after they ate the forbidden fruit. Its forbidden by the church.
