I don’t believe Maslow meant to say that sex is our purpose in life. Maslow is using it as a biological need - not a spiritual one. He is not talking about religion, he is talking about mankind in general. If man did not have a sex drive then he would not reproduce.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
  1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc.
  2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc.
  3. Belongingness and Love needs - work group, family, affection, relationships, etc.
  4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc.
  5. Self-Actualisation needs - realising personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.

First thing God told Man

Genesis 1 :-
.27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
.28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. :)

Sometimes in our advanced learning we forget the basic(s):

Why did God make me?

God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this wold and to be happy with Him in the next.

That is our purpose but for each a vocation (single, married, young, old, widowed, …)

The list Swan posted about Maslow’s hierarchy didn’t even include the most obvious ones of all – truth, justice, reality, sanity, effectiveness in accomplishing good. Sure, plenty of people nowadays talk about the “need for a sense of purpose”, but they leave it at that, and draw a blank if you try to talk about discovering one’s actual purpose and filling it effectively, rather than a search for a “feeling” or “sense” of anything. They think an illusion of purpose, virtue etc. is the same as the reality. That’s just solipsistic existential relativism and blocks any possibility of dialogue by operating on a built-in foregone conclusion. It annoys me a great deal.
As for sex, I sure hope it isn’t a “need” we’d die without. Life’s way better without it.

God did say we should be fruitful and multiply (speaking to the Jews) I wonder if that means, we as christians are not to be held to such an accounting…
Then I wake up and realize that Sex is a very large purpose in God’s plan!
Unless, you have a vocation.
If you have one, God love you man!
Please come to my parish, because we could use one more orthodox priest here. We only have one. He is not healthy, and has put in over 50 years.

I’m not sure I understand this post.

The whole thing.
I am not sure what you don’t understand.
Do you believe that marriage is a sacrament?
Do you belive that every catholic should be open to having children?
Do you believe the only impediment to the priesthood in the latin rite is a sexual marriage?
Well then, you understand it all.
