Hi folks,im new to this so bear with me :o,im due to be married in a few weeks to an amazing beautiful woman {praise God} and we have been saving ourselfs{ sexully} till our wedding night ,and by the grace of God we have been able to,but my question is what is sex within the marrige for example{i dont mean to be rude} foreplay i.e oral etc and of course always leading to intercourse,im not saying we will do such acts but would we be sinning if we did? Please help me on this as i want to protect my bride and myself from any type of sin, Thank you and God bless use all x

Intimacy doesn’t reduce well to black and white rules. Keep these questions handy and listen to your conscience (presumably well formed since you’ve managed to wait this long):
  1. Is what I propose to do next something beautiful that honors her dignity and expresses my love for her or is it just using her to get pleasure for myself? (Pleasure is NOT wrong, but must not displace your focus on loving her)
  2. Does it all end up in a climax that is by its nature ordered towards makin’ babies?
You won’t likely go wrong honestly answering these questions.

And since premarital virtue is so uncommon these days, I’ll give you some advice I wish somebody had given me before my wedding: Buy a tube of KY jelly or Astroglide ‘personal lubricant’ at the drugstore and pack it for the honeymoon. You’ll figure out why when you get there! 😉

Since you appear to be sincere I will say this in the spirit of charity.
Don’t take what you read from the posters here too seriously.
There are a lot of puritanical people here at CAF.

Including some who are to the extreme right of John Paul II when it comes to sex and marriage.

Celtic Bhoy, you sound like you will be a wonderful husband! If only every husband and wife had such a goal of the good of their spouse.

What you are alluding to is allowed by the Church. If your goal is intercourse that is open to conceiving babies, the Church does not have much regulations on how you achieve that. I agree, there are some puritanical people on this site, so get ready for those comments. Personally, I believe that would be a mean trick for God to invent something as wonderful and pleasurable as sex, make it so we have to do that, and then expect us to not have much enjoyment during such an enjoyable act. I don’t believe God plays mean tricks.

Blessings on your upcoming marriage!

+1 on the responses so far. Foreplay is not something the Church discusses much. The short version is basically what others have already said: as long as each act ends in the natural manner (intravaginal ejaculation) you should be good to go…provided you are not using each other for your own pleasure (for lustful desires I mean).

Have a great honeymoon and congratulations!

Given the 50 minutes between our posts, I have to wonder if you’re calling my response “puritanical.” Seriously??

In the spirit of “what I wish someone had told me”, etc.

All of my experience says that in order for sex to be enoyable for a female, the first and every subsequent time, spend time on simple kissing and hugging at first. Men typically become aroused quicker than women, and so if you are ready, slow down and spend extra time to allow her to become aroused before proceeding. And, as noted above, a personal lubricant can be a great help since the first time is sometimes intimidating and sometimes it is difficult to be aroused when intimidated. If a woman is not sufficiently aroused, the lack of natural lubrication produced by her body can lead to painful intercourse. Be a gentleman, allow her time to catch up with you, and things will go better.

The Magisterium teaches that to be moral, each and every knowingly chosen act must have three good fonts of morality:
  1. intention (the purpose or reason that the act was chosen)
  2. moral object
  3. circumstances
Any one or more bad fonts makes the act a sin. Good intentions are necessary but not sufficient. A correct choice of actions is also needed. Any act with an evil moral object is intrinsically evil, and therefore never justified by intention or circumstances.
In order to be moral, each and every sexual act must be marital, unitive, and procreative.

“The Church, nevertheless, in urging men to the observance of the precepts of the natural law, which it interprets by its constant doctrine, teaches that each and every marital act must of necessity retain its intrinsic relationship to the procreation of human life. This particular doctrine, often expounded by the magisterium of the Church, is based on the inseparable connection, established by God, which man on his own initiative may not break, between the unitive significance and the procreative significance which are both inherent to the marriage act.” (HV 11-12)

Certain types of sexual acts are inherently non-procreative; these are called unnatural sexual acts (oral, anal, or manipulative sexual acts). This type of act is intrinsically evil, and therefore never justified by intention (such as the intention to commit a natural sexual act at a later time), nor by circumstances (such as that the unnatural act occurs in the context of a natural act). The purpose of foreplay does not justify an intrinsically evil act.

“Each and every sexual act in a marriage needs to be open to the possibility of conceiving a child.” (USCCB Catechism, p. 409)

CCC 1756 “It is therefore an error to judge the morality of human acts by considering only the intention that inspires them or the circumstances (environment, social pressure, duress or emergency, etc.) which supply their context. There are acts which, in and of themselves, independently of circumstances and intentions, are always gravely illicit by reason of their object; such as blasphemy and perjury, murder and adultery. One may not do evil so that good may result from it.”

Just be certain you don’t confuse foreplay for sex. Oral sex or manual sex (oral or manual stimulation for the purpose of extra-vaginal ejaculation by the male, or the purpose of orgasm of the female that is not part of a marital act) is a sin.

But oral or manual stimulation in preparation for the marital act (sex), even if the wife achieves orgasm prior to, or after, her husband, is not a sin. As long as it leads to normal procreativly-natured sex (intra-vaginal ejaculation), oral or manual stimulation is okay. Anyone who tells you different owes you the benefit of providing the actual Church teaching (not their opinions) that they believe supports their assertion so that you can adequately evaluate it.

As I have alluded to, the Church teachings posted above in order to show support for a belief that oral stimulation is sinful represent a failure to recognize the difference between “sex” and “preparation for sex”.

AngryAthiest8, I think we understand your post now. 😉

This means, taken to its logical conclusion, that if you touch your spouse’s private parts while trying to have sex, you have committed a sin. Anything other than a direct hit…directly inserting tab A into slot B…without any other part of the body touching the genitals…is a sin. The reason this sounds ridiculous is because it is ridiculous.

All those things you listed are licit as foreplay. Please don’t spread false info to Catholics on this site.

Hah, yeah… considering I was just coming off another thread where some were people actually claiming that oral stimulation is sinful, I understood what he meant immediately.

If I remember correctly, Ron Conte is the guy behind Catholic Planet.
Which means the modern Church itself is liberal compared to his stated views.

You remember correctly. His opinions are not church teaching on this matter.
