Isn’t that chart wrong from the second line on?

If each person has had the same number of partners as you and you’ve had 2, that means they’ve been with one other person each so you’re exposed to your 2 partners and the other person they’ve had sex with so that’s 4, but if each of those partners has had sex with 2 people that means that the number is even higher again.

I went to public school and was taught all about safe sex. They also talked about this very fact…so you stand corrected.

I was hoping for more. Are people really this bad at math that they need a picture chart? Everyone knows this, if not I think this more a problem with basic education than chastity.

Visual aids (no pun intended) are more effective than raw numbers.

A) I have no idea where they are getting those numbers or what they mean. Well, I do “get” the first line. But if I have sex with two people, Bob and Sue, and both Bob and Sue have sex with two people, say Bob had sex with me and Jim, and Sue had sex with me and Sally, then I had sex with Bob, Sue, Jim, and Sally. That is four people. They say 3. What are they assuming to get these numbers?

B) Perhaps the concept of “if you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone else they have had sex with” is effective rhetoric, I don’t know. But I disagree with the concept itself, depending on what it is really trying to say. What is it trying to say? Is it trying to say that I am at the same risk of getting a venereal disease if I have sex with someone who had sex with someone who has a venereal disease than if I directly have sex with someone who has a venereal disease?

The point of the chart is, methinks, that one’s potential exposure to sexually transmitted disease isn’t necessarily a linear mathematical phenomenon, more likely exponential.

Bob and Jim, Sue and Sally (and the hypothetical you) sound like a pretty friendly group.

I wonder why they didn’t endeavor to put homos on the chart either? They could have killed two birds with one stone right there.

Also, why is this in social justice? Isn’t moral theology a tad bit more suitable?

You’re right that many people might assume it was linear, if they weren’t told otherwise.

Huh. I think it was in moral theology last night, if I recall. Perhaps the moderators moved it.

Actually, that’s exactly why I gave such a “friendly” example , as Newbie2 noticed. I’m wondering if they are assuming a very limited population of people, so that partners are overlapping, and thus you don’t have that endless 2 effect that you describe.

They are using (2^n)-1=x where n equals the numbers of partners you have had

Polaris, thanks. I see what they are doing now. At each stage I acquire a new association with someone with the same number of previous associations as I had at the previous stage, but the persons with whom I had a previous association with don’t change in any way that affects me.

Teens seem to love to hear the truth that chastity IS power , of being a friend of God, who Is HOLY …

May be a slightly modified chart could show the chaste teen or couple, being with The Infinite …the peace , dignity and power from being with God …

And the others who are being enlaved more and more …through all the avenues and floodgates they open , for themselves and others …

And may be a caption such as - ’ are you powerful enough to prevent terrorism and wars ? Are you a friend of The One who gives us His peace …or are you a slave to the murderer …! "

Even something like hinduism , which has its share of the lies of the enemy that make seduction as a sort of virtue, it also has powerful legends about the virtue of chastity …such as persons turned into stones , for many , many years , for one wrong glance !

And many who uphold this virtue very much !

It IS a sad sitaution that the west is often seen as an avenue of this destructive plague and form of spiritual slavery , this inspite of the many many very good persons in every walk of life who live holy lives , under the good and total control and power of The Holy Spirit, that is given to us by our Lord and Father !

May we be blessed with the wisdom to live in the freedom of children of God !
