Is Masturbation considered a mortal sin or not.
Since it is a grave matter, it may be a mortal sin. The Catholic teaching is in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Offenses against chastityIs Masturbation considered a mortal sin or not.
False. Masturbation is always a sin because it is objectively disordered and treats the human person as a mere means to the end of pleasure. Even if there were no lust going on, it would still be sinful in itself. So, we can conlude that there is one kind of masturbation that is not a sin, it is however only a case of argumenting and advocate a issue that can not be proved because it is between God and some person. So to be on safe side, keep it, as The Church teach, as a grave sin. We must, haven said that, keep in mind that it is a sin we all have been guilty to, but it are also a sin that will be forgiven.
Yup. I agree. Above I was just pointing out that even if it could theoretically exist without “lust” as commonly understood, it would still be sinful because of the reasons you pointed out from St. Thomas, and because it runs counter to the dignity of the human person. Thanks for letting me clarifyReferences:
It is a species of lust, and also because solitary sexual stimulation is “contrary to the natural order of the venerial act as becoming to the human race” per St. Thomas. (Summa Theologica II, II, Q 157, A. 11) In the Old Testament is is referred to as uncleanness, and additionally in the New as effeminacy.
Leviticus 15:16-18, 1 Corinthians 6:9.
Numbered with lust 2 Corinthians 12:21.
And see: Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:5-8.
CCC 2351 Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.
I was only speculating, never said it is not a sin. Foremost I wanted to give a perspective to a question. (Mea culpa?) I did not say it is OK. And I would like to remark that sex without lust is not possible.False.
