I think you are right. People take advantage of any sign of leniency. Kindness is often taken as stupidity. It’s human nature.
I would choose innocent kindness over suspicious defensiveness any day. Do we really want the Church to act like a paranoid teacher who doesn’t want to be taken advantage of?

I think that given the years of experience it has it should know better than to assume the best when human nature is concerned. 🤷

But kindness is not optional. It’s a virtue, and a fruit of the Spirit. If kindness leads to being taken advantage of, then we should endure being taken advantage of.

Niceness is not a fruit of the Spirit, and there’s no reason we always have to be nice.

But the church is already very kind. I don’t understand what people want, except for their sexual sins to be accepted as being fine. I think only that would be enough. I very much doubt that discussing language and how to soften it to extreme niceness will make any difference.

It is not kind to tell a person who eloped at age 16 (before they were Catholic and before they thought marriage was permanent) and got divorced at 18, that they are an adulterer because they remarried 40 years later. At least, I don’t see how that is kind.
