I"m sorry for playing the devil’s advicate here, but sometimes we, as practicing Catholics, have questions of a sexual nature that are of a specific practice. I myself sometimes have a question that’s very explicit, but dont trust seeking answers in the general public because of the Culture of Death that permeates it. Here though, i have a Catholic place where i feel very sure i’ll get good, sound advice from the Faithful about questions of a sexual nature, even if it’s a little explicit.
Now i do understand that we dont want to create an occasion of sin for anyone, but where else can we ask people of sound faith about questions that we have of a sexual nature? I can’t ask my priest about some sexual questions, cause he wont know from experience, but from what he’s read and learned. And my friends, family members, and co-workers are inundated with non-catholic beliefs and practices. And i surely dont want to pay a psychologist $60 to ask him/her about a sexual question.
I’m very greatful for this part of the forum. I have somewhere i can ask my questions that are of a sexual nature, and expect sound answers. And, i can also see what other problems others are having, and learn from them. There are alot of sexual questions on this forum that have given me answers that i can trust are based on Sound Catholic Teachings. And though there are more topics than just sexual for the Moral Forum, truly the #1 problem we have in our country is sexual addictions, which leads to so many other problems such as controception, abortion, homosexuality, pornography, lust, fornication, adultary, mono-playing, etc.

I wasn’t really agreeing with you much until you got to the last part… It IS true that these kinds of issues are rampant these days because our society in general is obsessed w/ the subject…(& plus: we are all weak humans). I’M not obsessed with this subject… but whatever. I can’t afford to be obsessed -There’s no point “going there” when i don’t have a spouse). In any case, i still don’t think there’s any need to go into graphic details in this forum. Like some other post-er said, it makes some of us think… Well, i’m sorry, but the word “pervert” comes to mind.
I suspect you are a man?? I don’t know why men seem to be more focused on this subject than women are… And i don’t buy it that men are more highly, well, you know (I am trying to be careful in case children ARE reading this). I don’t mean to offend, i’m just stating where i am honestly coming from… And also, on a different matter: Priests are not always virgins. Fr. Carapi on EWTN is 1 priest who - while i don’t know if he’s a virgin or not - has definitely been out “in the world”. Some men become priests after their wives die, etc… You shouldn’t assume that all priest are clue-less… God bless…

saintpiofan - that is why I would never suggest the conversations are banned all together. The are obviously needed by some and helpful to others. I just think they can be placed somewhere separate from the main forum, or even still within the Moral Theology section, as is approriate, but in a secure section.

I just wish you made some good impression on the moderators to make your suggestions come true and not having to deal with hypothetical situations whatsoever. The issues at stake here are bigger than each of our individual tastes.

Right - the issues are bigger… Just citing the 1st Amendment doesn’t cut it for me. 4 one thing, Its too simplistic.
Children should be protected from things that are virtually beyond their comprehension & that cause great disturbances 2their psyches. Our children’s wel-being is more important than some kind of right to parade illicit sexual activity in the public arena, where - it should go without saying (!!!) - it most certainly does not belong.
People have no shame anymore… Its like the last days of the Roman Empire… In fact, one mystic recently said that she had a revelation from God that things r worse now than they ever have been, particularly as concenrs the problems in the Church… which is interesting because I had already had that thought/feeling, before reading her book…
We Catholics, if we are not already doing so, need to pray every night for the lost, 4 those who are the most enslaved by sexual sin/addiction… since, as i mentioned b4, more souls go to Hell over sexual sins than any other… (according to at least one saint).

I agree 100% with you that children should be protected in ways more than merely sanitizing their playing pen, if I may use a pediatric analogy. But from experience, children who were not exposed to the real world microorganism have less anti-bodies to fight the real thing. That’s why we have inoculations and vaccines. CAF is the best chance we have to introduce young people to the teaching magisterium of the church, especially on sensitive issues on sexuality. Control of below 16 year olds is the responsibility of the parent, CAF or no CAF.

I more or less agree… but did you read the stuff on “self-gratification” & the husband who didn’t know whether he could morally “please” his wife (etc.). I don’t think this is proper “sex education” for children or young adults (due 2 the way things were said). I didn’t really want to be exposed 2 it myself & i am far from being a child. To me, discussing sexually explicit subjects anywhere is offensive & - what is worse - it can cause some to fall… One time, i had access 2 a TV (I don’t watch it at home…). The show was about sex, prostitution etc. I watched part of it because it brought up some social kinds of issues… Then I dismissed it from my mind & went about my business. But later, for no apparent reason, out of the blue, i started feeling… well, “interested”, shall we say, in “gratification”… I do everything i can to avoid those kinds of interests, so I wondered whether it was watching that show that caused it… I know how to fight these kinds of things, but some people may not… Jesus told us not to be a cause for stumbling to others…

I do not want to dismiss your problems, because I know they are serious for you. If watching a TV show like that causes problems for you, then you shouldn’t watch it.
For me, the problem comes when somebody in your position (not you, you understand; I’m just using the example) tries to get such TV shows banned for everyone because it’s a problem for them. This is sort of a Catholic political correctness – the assumption that everyone is offended, tempted, or hurt by something simply because I am.
People are different. Alcohol is a terrible temptation for some, food for others, and sex for still others. Yet Our Lord drank wine at Cana and feasted with His disciples.
Different people get different things out of the sex discussions on CAF. Some people get help. The Huz and I get laughs. Some people probably get their jollies from them; Lord knows they get them from everything else.
What do we do about that? For concerned parents, maybe they should be monitoring what their children do on-line more closely. Maybe they should realize that nobody needs to hear the Church’s teaching on oral sex more than a 14-year-old, these days.
For those like you who are hurt or tempted by the discussions, stay away from them.
My personal opinions on Christopher West (yawn) and the theology of the body are already notorious around here. I’m not going to debate them here. BUT if I were a Catholic (yes) husband (no) wanting to know how to please my spouse (not saying) and stay true to the Church’s somewhat impenetrable (sorry) teaching on the subject, where would you send me?

For one thing, which TV shows r u talking about? I don’t watch TV. All i know is that when i did watch it, it seemed 2b all about sex, violence & other boring stuff (its boring because of the way TV usually portrays it). I don’t watch TV because i want to keep my mind on God and 2 “work out my salvation with fear and trembling” as we are instructed to do… i want my mind/soul/heart to be as “pure” as possible. Besides, TV is brainwashing, not to mention (usually) a waste of precious time. Its a sin to waste time…
There are good things on TV but there’s too much garbage to “wade through” to get to it… But in any case, i never said i didn’t want to see any discussion whatsoever of s-- on the forum. I just think that people could exercize a little more sensitivity in how they word things…

If we had a private forum, we could send you to the private forum, and you could ask your question in plain English, without fear that your husband or anyone else might accidentally Google on to your question (and recognize himself), and without fear of offending anyone who is sensitive in these areas.

I sympathize with you 100% and I recognize the danger and difficulty in dealing with a public forum like this. That’s the reason we have to count on on the competence and good graces of the moderators and the maturity of the more responsible posters themselves. There should be a monitoring system somehow. But I still cling to the hope that this forum is one of the best chance we all have to fight the corrupted secular thoughts on sexuality. If all the spiritually mature members shun away, the perverts will take over this forum for sure. JPII has given us the TOB which I believe has the hands of the Holy Spirit behind it. Our enemy are from the principalities that was described by St Paul. In such a war, we cannot just rely on our own abilities and personal fears but be open to the leadings of the Holy Spirit and cling to the teaching magisterium of the Catholic Church and pray very hard on each and every word we type in this forum. We are not here on our own account and abilities. Somebody up there has the final say before this story ends.
