Okay, up-front, this is a bit of shameless promotion of my blog 😊. If you administrators here don’t think it’s appropriate, please feel free to delete this thread šŸ‘

I recently wrote a series of long emails to a friend of mine who is considering leaving the Catholic Church. Each email addressed a number of different issues with which he was struggling (Catholic.com was a marvelous help in doing this).

As I responded to each of his objections, I struck by the way in which he (a) often simply didn’t know what the Church taught on an issue (he had many Protestant misconceptions), (b) didn’t know the reason for many Catholic beliefs, particularly the scriptural foundation for them and (c) he knew nothing of the Church in the first four centuries (I, myself, only ā€œdiscoveredā€ the Early Church Fathers about 9 months ago).

I am sure he is not alone in this. I have therefore decided to start publishing in blog-form modified versions of what I sent my friend. I’ve been publicizing these posts on Facebook as I have many Protestant friends. In terms of tone, I am trying to pitch this at the gentler end of the apologetics spectrum. So, feel free to stop by and say ā€œHiā€ and I hope it may be of some use to you.

I was unable to find what you were talking about on your link, I would like to check it out, and maybe promote it as well on my site and my site’s FB page, if that’s ok.

I note you are interesting in the early Church.

Does part of CA discuss this?
I’m not quite sure what CA is, but yeah, I’m going to be posting about the other great love of my life, the Church Fathers.

I’m always stunned that the Fathers are not publicised much or quoted in sermons. If you’re a priest and you want your sermon to be brilliant, go see what St. John Chrysostom wrote about the Sunday readings! It’s not plagiarism - it’s drinking from the wells of Tradition!

I’m intending on posting a general introduction to the Fathers, a few articles on my favourites (Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, …), as well as some discussion on early Christian symbolism and the early liturgy.
