Not offering medical advice, and I do think you should see a dermatologist if you can, but my mother had the same symptoms suddenly appear and it turned out she had developed an allergy to sodium laureth sulfate, which is in just about every shampoo and soap on the market. She now uses Giovanni brand (about $8 at Whole Foods, cheaper online, like at vitacost, but the only one she can find that she likes, and that works). If she runs out and tries to use someone else’s shampoo just once, she’s itchy and red almost instantly.

try using plain bar soap, like grandma used, to shampoo, then rinse of with solution of water and white vinegar youwill be amazed after a week or so.
Yeah, this does work. Use a good, natural soap (not Dial or similar) or shampoo bar- I use these but Burt’s Bees sells them as well- and follow with a rinse of about 10% vinegar solution. I use a squeeze bottle to make sure I can get the vinegar on my scalp. If you don’t have hard water you might not need the vinegar every day.

A few people have mentioned tea tree products. I was browsing at Whole Foods last night and found a conditioner by Avalon Organics, made for dry scalps (the vinegar is good but it does dry out my hair a bit). The price was $5.99 for 11 oz. so not too bad, and it has tea tree and babassu oil which are supposed to be good for problem skin and moisturizing, respectively. So this morning I soaped up my hair with my shampoo bar then followed with the tea tree conditioner. So far, so good. My hair is nice and soft and my scalp isn’t itching.

Hiya!

I’m new here 🙂

I’d recomend Head and Shoulders -Dry scalp

I have the same issues at times and H&S really really clears that up.

It’s such a good Shampoo, I’d really recomend it! 🙂

Peace!
I agree with this, I try other shampoos but always end up back with Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp. That is the key for me, the Dry Scalp formula. I also only wash my hair maybe twice a week at the most. You need to let your natural oils do their job.

A vinegar rinse will dry your scalp out as well but it is great for making sure you get all the shampoo off of your scalp (the residue of which will also dry your scalp out) and if you want to add a red tint use natural cider vinegar! This might be what you need, making sure you get all the shampoo out.

BTW, I generally get a “what do you do to your hair, it is so gorgeous” from Hairdressers! So, if you find something that works for your hair and scalp, use it.
