Shanghai Church

Does anyone know the official status of the church in Shanghai?
Is it legitimate? What other important info is worth knowing.
What about in Beijing and the rest of China?

I suggest you might get a better response posting this on “Apologetics” or “Ask an apologist”. Though you’re asking about a Catholic Church that is very far east, this thread tends to focus more on the Eastern Rites of the Church (Byzantine, Maronite, Syro-Malabar, Coptic, etc.) and the Shanghai church is, I guess, Roman rite.
