Shaolin(2011 film) is Buddhist film?

This movie (also known as the New Shaolin Temple) is filled with the Buddhist religion. But I wonder if it is actual Buddhism, or some film dorector’s inaccurate portrayal of it? A minor question about this–can a married man become a Buddhist monk as the main character does? I liked this movie very much by the way, but I wonder if its Buddhism is accurate.

-From what I understand there isn’t anything much of a Shaolin Temple anymore. The Chinese government took care of that decades ago.

-I am not a Buddhist, but I have Buddhist friends. I have also met a good number of Buddhist monks. I have not personally met any that are married.I have heard that there may be some married ones, but only in Japan, and this is not the rule. There are lots of austerities for monks or renunciants in eastern religions, just like for Christian monks.

Hello, yes a married man can become a monk according to Buddhism.it is written in the history that many great kings and a lots of people became monks even when the period of Lord Buddha. but that doesn’t mean that after one became a monk , he can have a wife.

It is forbiddened to get married once one became a monk. and even a monk want to get married and live a normal life, they are allowed but then he will no longer be a monk.

You understand correctly. It’s more of a martial arts themed tourist site. Even the so called ‘‘monks’’ are more often than not wushu performers in bright robes.
