the photo has been doctored, obviously.
Actually, the pictures of the pope and cardinal themselves were not doctored. The only way in which they were was simply to put them side by side in one image file.

It’s nice to hear of so many participating in adoration of Our Lord despite the modernist architecture.

Actually, this is probably my favorite “modern” church building, and I do prefer the older styles. We call it the “noah’s ark” church, because of the large wooden beam construction (no, that’s not an official name for the parish, heh). There are limited options for a churches to comfortably seat 1,000 and it is about to be expanded (rearward) to seat 1,500, due to overcrowded masses.

Don’t judge or underestimate worshippers because the building is not to your preferences. I bet our masses are larger than yours. Our Archbishop also compliments our parish on the reverence towards the Eucharist. There is no lack of piety here. Mass is standing room only every single week. The weekly attendance is 6,000-7,000 between 6 weekend masses every single week (Saturday vigil + 5 Sunday masses). Every Sunday at 5pm, teenagers vie for the best seats up in the front-center 4 rows for Lifeteen mass. Abuses aside (and they’ve mostly all been corrected), the fact that teens pack in the seats can never be a bad thing. I see more reverence from them than I do most of the middle-agers at 10:45am mass.

I know it’s not in the spirit of the thread, so I’ll post it as links… Here’s some more pictures of this parish. The Adoration taking place above was at night, and a narrow angle with the camera. The church is really quite beautiful and there’s a lot of stained glass:

I love pictures of Catholic churches. We should start a thread for that. I have several to contribute of various ones I’ve visited. NOTE: the image number 5 is NOT during a mass… masses are actually packed to the point that people stand and people would not be ‘lounging’ so casually. This was a day when the Archbishop was giving a talk on a Saturday afternoon… not a mass 🙂

How did I arrive?
How did I come to be
the one He chose to bless out of all the rest?
Why did He choose me?

What do I possess?
What secret do I know?
What could I have done to please the One from Whom all blessings flow?

Just these words
They’re all I have to give
Just these words
They are the way I live

Whatever He says to you, do it.
Whatever He says to you, do it.
And the water will turn into wine
Sight will come to the blind
Whatever He says to you, do it.

What more could I say?
And what more could I do?
To show you how to live your life so God can live His life through you

Just these words
They’re all I have to give
Just these words
They are the way I live

Whatever He says to you, do it.
Whatever He says to you, do it.
And the water will turn into wine
Sight will come to the blind
Whatever He says to you, do it.

Do it.
Just do it.

(i don’t know who wrote this song, but i heard it in a performance called “The Witness” 20 years ago and it has stayed with me ever since.)
