There was a nice reading from Jeremiah today and I thought it would make a nice hymn.

Here is the closing section of the Gloria from Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis.

I also like Pergolesi’s Cuius, but the trills can get loud.

This ones is from Dvorak’s Stabat Mater. I really like how the quartet kind of complements each other. I kind of didn’t like it at first and its was a bit of an acquired taste.

I like the Dvořák! I have always loved his symphonies and chamber music, but this is the first time I have listened to his sacred music. I think I would like to hear a complete performance of it. Thank you!

Agreed!

Of possibly passing interest, I was asked to sing at a wedding with a lady who really is operatic quality (I’m not, but I have a fair range). Anyway, two of the songs were “The Prayer” and “Bist du bie mir”.

The version of "The Prayer was the one sung by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion, and it is a religious song.

Bist du bei mir is not really a hymn, but a love song. Regardless, it’s one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. The lyrics are almost always sung in German (we alternated) but the translation would almost bring tears to your eyes.

I also like “Gospodi Pomiluj” and “May our Mouths be Filled with your Praise”.

Oh, yes, and for Christmas “Lulaj-je Jezuniu” and “Gaudete”.

At some point, in some choir, I once sang an arrangement of “Gospodi Pomiluj.” You don’t forget a title like that, even if I can no longer remember when I sang it or what the melody was. 😊

It was probably college, because I know I sang “Blazheni Yazhe Izbral” in one of those choirs.

I sang a different version of Gospodi Pomiluj in college.

I have never heard of Blazheni Yazhe Isbral". I’ll listen to it. College singing was fun. I remember singing “El Yivneh Hagalil” It was pretty. Also an Israeli dance that started off with “Hava nir k’dana hora…” But I can’t find it on YouTube.
