O Holy Spirit, most merciful Comforter: You proceed from the Father in a manner beyond our understanding. Come, I beseech You, and take up your abode in my heart. Purify and cleanse me from all sin, and sanctify my soul. Cleanse it from every impurity, water its dryness, melt its coldness, and save it from sinful ways. Make me truly humble and resigned, that I may be pleasing to You, and that You abide with me forever. Most blessed Light, most amiable Light, enlighten me. O rapturous Joy of Paradise, Fount of purest delight, my God, give yourself to me, and kindle in my innermost soul the fire of your love. My Lord, instruct, direct, and defend me in all things. Give me strength against all immoderate fears and against despondency. Bestow upon me a true faith, a firm hope, and a sincere and perfect love. Grant that I always do your most gracious will. Amen.

( PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT BY ST. ANTIOCHUS )

Hail, most precious wounds of Jesus, in the omnipotence of the Father, Who decreed you; hail, in the wisdom of the Son, Who endured you; hail, in the goodness of the Holy Spirit, Who through you accomplished the work of human redemption. To you I commend myself, into you I plunge myself, that in your shelter I may be secure from the destroyer. Amen.

(ST GERTRUDE’S SALUTATION OF THE FIVE WOUNDS OF OUR SAVIOR)

i wanted to post St Clare of Assisi’s prayers to the five wounds, but I think they exceed the character limit for a post.

Jesus, My Friend
by St. Claude de la Colombiere

My Friend, you are my true Friend. My only Friend. You take part in all my misfortunes. You know how to turn them into blessings. You listen to me with great kindness when I tell you all my troubles, and you always have something with which to heal my wounds.

I find you at any time of the day or night, for I find you wherever I happen to be. You never leave me. If I change my dwelling place, I find you wherever I go. You never weary of listening to me. I am certain of being loved by You, if I but love You. My worldly goods are of no value to you, but by bestowing yours on me You never grow the poorer. However miserable I may be, no one more noble, more clever, or even more holy, can come between You and me and deprive me of your friendship.

And death, which tears us away from all other friends will unite me forever to You. All the humiliations attached to old age or the loss of honor will never separate you from me; On the contrary, I shall never enjoy You more fully and you will never be closer to me than when everything seems to conspire against me and cast me down. You bear with all my faults with extreme patience. Even my lack of fidelity and my ingratitude do not wound you to such a degree as to make you unwilling to receive me back when I return to you.

O Jesus, grant that I may die loving you and that I may die for love of you. Amen

Amen.

Prayer for a Magnanimous Heart (A prayer of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots (1542-1587))

Oh God, keep us from all pettiness:
Let us be large in thought, in word and deed.
Let us be done with fault finding and
leave off all self-seeking.
May we put away all pretence and
meet each other face to face
Without self pity and without prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgment
and always generous.
Let us always take time for all things,
And make us grow calm, serene and gentle.
Teach us to put into action our better impulses,
To be straightforward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize that it is the
little things that create differences,
That in the big things of life we are as one.
And, Oh Lord God, let us not forget to be kind.

PRAYERS OF ST CLARE OF ASSISI TO THE FIVE WOUNDS OF OUR SAVIOR
  1. To the Wound in the Right Hand
Praise be to Thee, O Jesus Christ, for the most sacred wound in Thy right hand. By this adorable wound, and by Thy most sacred Passion, pardon me all the sins I have committed against Thee in thought, word, and deed, and all negligence in Thy service, and all sensuality for which I have been to blame whether asleep or awake. Grant that I may be able to recall with devotion Thy most pitiful death and sacred wounds; grant me the grace to mortify my body, and so to offer a pledge of my gratitude to Thee. Who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, etc.
  1. To the Wound in the Left Hand
Praise and glory be to Thee, O amiable Jesus Christ, for the most sacred wound in Thy left hand. By this adorable wound, have mercy on me, and deign to root out of my heart everything displeasing to Thee. Give me victory over Thy perverse enemies, so that with Thy grace I may be able to overcome them; and by the merits of Thy most pitiful death save me from all the dangers of my present and future life. And then grant that I may share Thy glory in Heaven. Who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, etc.
  1. To the Wound in the Right Foot
Praise and glory be to Thee, O patient Jesus Christ, for the most sacred wound in Thy right foot; and by that adorable wound grant me grace to do penance for my sins. By Thy most pitiful death I devoutly beg of Thee to keep me, Thy poor servant, united night and day to Thy holy will, and to remove afar off every misfortune of body and soul. And when the day of wrath shall come, receive me into Thy mercy, and lead me to eternal happiness. Who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, etc.

(continued from previous post)
  1. To the Wound in the Left Foot
Praise and glory be to Thee, O adorable Jesus Christ, for the most sacred wound in Thy left foot; and by this adorable wound grant me the grace of a full pardon, that with Thine aid I may deserve to escape the sentence of eternal reprobation. I pray Thee, moreover, by Thy most holy death, O my loving Redeemer, that I may be able before my death to receive the Sacrament of Thy Body and Blood, after confession of my sins, and with perfect repentance and purity of body and mind. Grant that I may merit also to receive the holy anointing for my eternal salvation, O Lord, Who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, etc.
  1. To the Wound in the Sacred Side
Praise and glory be to Thee, O loving Jesus Christ, for the most sacred wound in Thy side, and by that adorable wound, and by Thy infinite mercy, which Thou didst make known in the opening of Thy breast to the soldier Longinus, and so to us all, I pray Thee, O most gentle Jesus, that having redeemed me by baptism from original sin, so now by Thy Precious Blood, which is offered and received throughout the world, deliver me from all evils, past, present, and to come. And by Thy most bitter death give me a lively faith, a firm hope, and a perfect charity, so that I may love Thee with all my heart, and all my soul, and all my strength; make me firm and steadfast in good works, and grant me perseverance in Thy service, so that I may be able to please Thee always. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, etc.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee.
R. Because by Thy death and Blood Thou hast redeemed the world.

Let Us Pray

Almighty and everlasting God, who by the five wounds of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, hast redeemed the human race, grant to Thy suppliants that we who daily venerate these wounds, may, by the shedding of His Precious Blood, be freed from sudden and everlasting death. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lorica of Saint Patrick

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In preachings of the apostles,
In faiths of confessors,
In innocence of virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a mulitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul.
Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation

( The well-known prayer to and for the gift of the Holy Spirit )

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Passion prayer to Our Lord

O most merciful Lord Jesus,
by the agony you endured,
by the sweat of your Blood,
by your precious death,
deliver us, we beseech you,
from a sudden and unprovided death.

O most kind Lord Jesus,
by your ignominious scourging
by your crowning with thorns,
by your holy Cross and bitter Passion,
by your love and mercy,
we humbly pray
that you would not let us die unprovided with your holy Sacraments.

O dearly beloved Lord Jesus,
by all your labors and sorrows,
by the Precious Blood shed in your passion
by the sacred Wounds you endured,
by those your last words on the Cross: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
by your surrender: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit,”
we beseech you to deliver us from a sudden death.

O Lord Jesus, we pray
grant us room for repentance;
grant us a happy passing in your grace,
grant us a peaceful end,
that so we may be able to love you, praise you and bless you forever. Amen.

Recite the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be to the Father.

Prayer to the Holy spirit St Paul of the cross

O Holy Spirit, Love of the Father and the Son, inflame me entirely with love. O Spirit of infinite light, infinite sweetness, come into my heart! Come, O infinite good! Come, immense Love! Come, true and only God, into this poor penitent heart! Come, my Love! Come, my sweetness, O my light, my happiness, O my Treasure, O my Riches, O my true good, O my only hope, O my God, O my all. Come, for I languish for Love. Come, for I can no longer bear not to love you. Come and set me on fire to the marrow of my bones. Amen.

Heart of Jesus, you love me; grant that I may love you.
Heart of Jesus, you are always thinking of me; grant that I may always think of you.
Heart of Jesus, you give yourself to me; grant that I may give myself to you.
Heart of Jesus, take possession of my senses.
Heart of Jesus, take possession of my imagination.
Heart of Jesus, take possession of my memory.
Heart of Jesus, take possession of my mind.
Heart of Jesus, take possession of my will.
Heart of Jesus, grant that I may seek you alone in all things.
–Grant that I may find you in all things.
–Grant that I may trust you in all things.
–Grant that I may please you in all things.
Heart of Jesus, may your Kingdom come in every heart.

The Golden Sequence

This prayer appeared first in liturgical books around the year 1200. It has been variously ascribed to Pope Innocent III (1216), to King Robert of France (1031), and even to Saint Gregory the Great (604). Most probably, however, its author was Cardinal Stephen Langton (1128), Archbishop of Canterbury. The poem has been known from medieval times as the “Golden Sequence” because of its richness in thought and expression. Each one of the short stanzas is a sentence in itself, thus facilitating meditation.

Come, Holy Spirit, send down those beams
Which sweetly flow in silent streams
From your bright throne above .

O come, the Father of the poor,
O come, the source of all our store,
Come fill our hearts with love.

You are of comforters the best ,
The soul’s most welcome guest ,
The pilgrims sweet relief.

In all our toil, rest most sweet,
Refreshment in the noonday heat,
And solace in all our grief.

O blessed Light of Life, divine,
Deep in our hearts let your light shine,
Because we hope in you.

Without your Godhead nothing can
have any price or worth in man,
nor be harmless in what we do.

Lord, wash our sinful stains away,
water from heaven our barren clay,
our wounds and bruises heal.

To your sweet yoke our stiff necks bow,
warm with your love our hearts of snow,
our wandering feet recall.

Grant to your faithful dearest Lord
whose only hope is in your word,
your sevenfold gift of grace.

Grant us in life your grace that we
in peace may die and ever be
in joy before your face . Amen . Alleluia !

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you.

Amen .
