You missed this on your own site…🙂
But they must pay other taxes to share in the state budget. If they refuse to pay this tax to the state and rebel against the state, then it is the obligation of the state to confront them until they pay it.
theamericanmuslim.org/tam.php/features/articles/quran_929_commentary/

That is, it’s imposed upon them. Get the picture?
My dear, it is more for the benefit of the state than a relegious act. Why do you have compulsory taxes there in countries like U.S., U.K., Canada, India and many other countries? And we are ready to pay, because we know we have benefit from it in someway or other. The benefit from Jizya was the security, military protection for health and wealth, right to live with own religion and culture. The tax was compulsory not only to Non-Muslims but Muslims also, as Zakaath. Zakaath too was/is compulsory. The first Calipha, Aboobakar (r) had a real fight with those Muslims who refused to pay Zakaath.

You saying it can’t be written in English Kwor-ran?

There’s many combinations of letters in English to get the same sound.

Hope this helps you understand English spelling a little 👍

All your site does is tell how to transliterate the Koran.

It doesn’t say why one particular transliteration is better.

Why Quaran, and not quaraan as done here?
I quit. I failed. You won the debate. Happy?🙂

Khalfan doesn’t either understand, or wish to advertise, that to Moslems ‘peace’ means only one thing - submission to Islam

His own site says this…
“Therefore, the command to fight in verse 9:29 relates to those non-muslims who commit agression and not those who are committed to live in peace.”

Living in peace means accepting the imposition of Islam, including the payment of the tax that’s imposed upon non-Moslems.

One of the deceptions of that site is interesting…
"The verse mentions Jizya, which is unfortunately misunderstood by some people. Like any nation, the Islamic government requires its citizens to pay taxes in return for its services. Since Muslims pay the Zakat, the non-muslim citizens are required to pay Jizya (for more information on Jizya, please refer to Jizya in Islam and Jizyah and non-muslim minorities). "
(Ibid.)

It would be fair if all the community were taxed the same regardless of their religion, but this isn’t so.
The Zakat is paid by Moslems at 2.5%. The Jizya paid for by non-Moslems is at 10% (though this site forgets to point out this difference) thus making a mockery of the following…
“Hence, the laws of Islam forbid Muslims from opressing non-muslims and command them to treat others with justice and compassion. In fact, the Prophet Muhammad pbuh himself forbade Muslims from harming non-muslim citizens of an islamic state or any non-muslim with whom there was an agreement of peace, as he said,”
(Ibid.)

This is a mockery, because it talks of ‘justice’. In Islam justice is different from how we use it.

In Islam, if you separate an entire group and discriminate against them all, that’s justice - so if you make all non-Moslems pay an unfair tax, it’s justice!
I don’t know where you got 10%. There was no amount permanently fixed for the tax, though the payment usually depended on wealth: the Kitab al-Kharaj of Abu Yusuf sets the amounts at 48 dirhams for the richest (e.g. moneychangers), 24 for those of moderate wealth, and 12 for craftsmen and manual laborers. The tax was not supposed to be levied on slaves, women, children, monks, the old and the sick. Fair and unfair is subject to study my dear.

Islam was not the first religion to pre-ordain the Jizya and Muslims were not the first nation to levy the Jizya unto the peoples subdued by them. Victorious nations throughout history have persisted in levying the Jizya on their conquered subjects. Examples of such an action are abundant in human history.
This is reflected in the New Testament when Jesus (pbuh) told Simon the following:

“What do you think Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes – from their own sons or from others?” “From others” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt” Jesus said to him." (Matthew 17:24-25).

Joshua had in fact also enslaved the conquered people of Canaan when he conquered them:

“They did not dislodge the Canaanites dwelling on Gezer ; to this day the Canaanites live among the people of Ephraim but are required to pay Jizya.” (Joshua 16:10).

Thus Joshua had both enslaved and levied Jizya on the people of Canaan.

Slaves and poor were not supposed to pay Jizya when Islam introduced it.

Christianity is not supposed abrogate any of the laws of Judaism. Jesus (pbuh) did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, rather, he came to fulfill them (Matthew 5:17). He even commanded his followers to pay the Jizya to the Romans and he himself had expediently paid it. He told Simon:

“Go to the lake and throw your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” (Matthew 17:24-27)

When asked by Jews about his opinion as regards the payment of the Jizya, he acknowledged Caesar’s right to take it

"They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You are not swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said,“You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription??? “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” (Matthew 22:16-21).

The New Testament considers the payment of Jizya to the ruler as a legislative right. It is clad in holiness and is rendered as a religious matter. It says:

“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He Is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” (Romans 13:1-7).

If you don’t practice this, thats a different case.

Why do you criticize Islam then for the same thing that your Bible teaches as righteous to collect and to pay??🙂

So Moslems have the letter ‘q’ ?

What’s the difference between the sounds made by it, and ‘c’, and ‘k’ ?

‘Q’ in English has a ‘kw’ sound (mostly when followed by a ‘u’, except for the word QANTAS - which is kwan-tas)
youtube.com/watch?v=13LIFEMuvgU

If you scroll across to 1:07 then you can hear the difference between *qaaf * (which is said further back in the mouth and has a certain clicking sound, not the same as an English q) and *kaaf * (pretty much the same as k in English).

Hi

Kindly quote from Quran when it was imposed on non-believers.

Thanks
Why don’t you answer the question?

While you are at it please explain (w/o using a question:thumbsup: ) dhimmitude, which is the imposition of Sharia Law onto people of the book (Christians and Jews).

In countries like the US and UK EVERYONE has a voice in the levying of taxes. In islam non-muslims do not get to decide how they are ruled.

I hear all of this talk about sharia law and was curious to insights from those knowledgeable about the Islamic faith. Is the concept of sharia law held by all Muslims as a rulling system that should be imposed on all humanity? Where do non-belivers fit in? Any other insights??

By the way, this is my first post 👍
Welcome. you can try Reliance of the Traveller. It is a manual of sharia law written for the man in the street and it is approved by several islamic universities. It is a great exposition of the opression and islamic supremacy that is Sharia law.

A common islamic argument…which happens to be a fallacy. “Well they did it so it is OK for muslims to do it”

What most muslims don’t realize is that the west lives in a democratic society, where we the people (all people) decide how we are to be ruled. In a muslim sharia society only the muslims (and a select few) decide how people are ruled over including the payment of the jizya. Sharia law never was nor will it ever be compatiable with a free, open society where everyone is equal in dignity.

To all you fellow “non believers” please read up on sharia so you can recognize it when it appears in our society and fight against it. It is as evil if not more that communism or nazism. It has shown up a great deal in Europe and has started to show up in the US.

This article on sharia by an ex-Muslim, may be written in tongue in cheek style, but shows the real “beauty” of its laws!

Vickie

Hi

Kindly quote from Quran when it was imposed on non-believers.

Thanks
I don’t know of any verses that say it should (nor did I imply it). What verses say that Sharia law should not be applied to nonbelievers?

ONE of the verses in the koran that describes concept of dhimmitude:

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

Still going with this non-issue?

Even if it were 7% it’s still imposed upon non-believers by virtue of them being non-believers!

What other systems tax people based on ethnicitiy/ideology?

SO Islam’s system is not inspired! Great admission.
This is reflected in the New Testament when Jesus told Simon the following:

“What do you think Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes – from their own sons or from others?” “From others” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt” Jesus said to him." (Matthew 17:24-25).
Literally Kings seldom taxed their own sons.
Christianity is not supposed abrogate any of the laws of Judaism.
That’s only partly true, though irrelevant to why Moslems discriminate.
Why do you criticize Islam then for the same thing that your Bible teaches as righteous to collect and to pay??
Christians don’t do this. Your quotes from the OT - for what purpose - we eat pork, despite it being against Mossaic law.

In countries like the US and UK EVERYONE has a voice in the levying of taxes. In islam non-muslims do not get to decide how they are ruled.
No one is supposed to talk against the government according to your Bible. right? 🙂 And the Bible is supposed to be inspired of God. Can God be wrong? I don’t think so. 😉

Not true, early Christians spoke against Rome on a regular basis and were sent to be eaten by lions or publically executed.
