As far as I know there are no Catholic organizations like these.

I have never used one but only because for the most part the clinics/hospitals here don’t work with them. Plus I get insurance at work cheaper with less out of pocket.

From what I can tell no specifically Catholic medishare group group exists.

As for exxperience, I don’t have very much, as I only just signed up for chministries.org/ which is the third of the three big healthsares (samaritan and medishare being the other two). From what I can tell, medishare is the most exclusive and acts the most like insurance of the three, even having its own list of “preferred providers”. Do be aware though that you are not eligible for membership if you have smoked at all within the past 12 months. So, even if it was just a social smoke sometime in the past 12 months that will cross out medishare as an option.

I can’t see any of this working. Why? Because healthcare is expensive, and individual care can easily top the millions.

I haven’t personally used them, but I know several people that have. I believe they are working on a Catholic version of one, but it might not qualify under the PPACA (so even if you were in the Catholic medical share group, you would be {in the eyes of the government} uninsured, and thus owe the penalty). The ones you listed I believe qualify because they have been in existence long enough (had to start before Jan 1, 2000 I think).

As for does it work, it is exactly the same procedure “normal” insurance takes. They get a bunch of people and split the costs.

All three of the ones mentioned in this thread have been consistently paying their members medical expenses since at least 1999, that is one of the requirements for them to be eligible as a substitute for insurance. So, you may be skeptical of it working the fact is that it has been working for all three of these for over 20 years. 🤷

I have some acquaintances who are with medishare. All their expenses from an emergency c-section and nicu were covered.

And I just realized I had a typo in there, that should read at least 10 years. :o
