"Sharing" the Holy Eucharist Spiritually?

Often after I receive the Holy Eucharist I pray to the Lord to allow me to “share” Him with my deceased loved ones and with the souls in Purgatory. I always preface this request with “if it be acceptable to Thy will”. Let me just stress that by “sharing” Him in the Holy Eucharist I mean in a spiritual sense. I fully consume the Holy Eucharist every time I have the privilege of receiving Him.

But after some thought I wanted to make sure that I am doing nothing wrong in making this request of Our Blessed Lord after receiving Him in the Holy Eucharist. Is this practice acceptable? Has anyone else made similar prayers to the Lord? And does anyone know if this is something that the Lord would be happy to do or is it childish of me to ask Him to let me “share” Him?

I would say that, since you have an intelligent and well-rounded understanding of what you are doing, there is nothing wrong with it.

You may also tell our Lord that you want to dedicate this precious time with him in honor of your deceased friends and relatives.

Long ago there was a thing called “spiritual bouquets”. This was a number of good works and prayers listed on a gift card that were dedicated in someone’s honor for them. For instance,

9 rosaries
10 masses and communions
50 short prayers
5 charitable works
3 stations of the cross
8 hours before the blessed sacrament

These were done for that person for Christmas, birthday, mom’s day, anniversary, or some other special occasion.

Then on the special day, the card was presented to the person. These make nice gifts.

So to you may offer up anything as a spiritual gift for them, including the deceased.

Just a thought.
 
A while back I heard on some show on EWTN that when each of us receives Jesus in the Holy Eucharist we are at that moment connected to the rest of the body of Christ, both living and dead. If this is incorrect, please let me know. I think it is a very comforting as well as a confounding idea.

They still exist today. Most people just don’t know what they are.

It’s not uncommon for people to, right before they receive communion, offer up the graces they receive from it for another person.

Yes, when you are “in Christ” you are one with everyone that is “in Christ” also with those who have fallen asleep “in Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:18)
