My husband (who is our primary dishwasher guy) has the following method:

–load dishes in as is
–run them through dishwasher as many times as needed

We normally don’t have a lot of volume, but that method doesn’t work quite as well when we have two full loads a day, plus the stuff that didn’t get clean from each previous load.

I’m more of a wash-then-dishwash gal, but I also really like not doing the dishes, so I try not to complain (much).

The big kids have started unloading the dishwasher for us and I’m going to try to get them on the dishwashing crew sometime this year.

I stick dishes in the dishwasher right from the table without scraping or washing a thing. Same for utensils, Tupperware, kids cups and bottles when we are using them. Often the sink never gets turned on unless I have a pot to scrub.

Everything comes out clean.

Ya’ll need better dishwashers!
Yeah we do.

Ours broke back in October. It was really old anyway and doing all kinds of weird things. The handle broke about a year ago and you needed a screwdriver to get into the dang thing.

We’re actually doing a new kitchen. Our Kitchen is original and about 75 years old. Besides appliances…no one has done any updates to it since it was built.

Hubby and I are out of our minds…we know this.

Yep. If you need to pre-rinse, there’s something wrong with the dishwasher. I wipe the worst off with a fork or a napkin and that’s plenty. I do clean the dishwasher every other month (not hard once you learn how) and fill the rinse aid dispenser with white vinegar every month. Ours is old and did not clean well when we moved in. There was who knows how many years of gunk lining the bottom.

We also use the fancy pants tabs now, but when they go on sale I get them cheaper than store brand powder or gel.
Cascade platinum tabs make all the difference. Funny how this thread has become all about dishwashers

I wonder who is the patron saint of kitchen renovations?

They had dishwashers 75 years ago???🙂

I would go straight to St. Joseph. You need a good general contractor.
😃

Him and my Godmother’s brother…who is our earthly GC.

They stuck a really small washing machine near the sink…half the size of what a family of 5 needs in terms of a dishwasher.
It was the only spot they could find and the only size they could manage.

Were doing a total reno…a wall is coming down and the back door is getting moved.

More cabinets, more counter-space and new appliances. All of which we need. Doesn’t help when you have a non-functioning dishwasher and small fridge and a partially functioning stove.
