I used to like a girl. Now she is assistant manager of a store, she owns a company, knows how to play the guitar, has much more in charisma than me. It is like God has blessed her more than me and He has given her much more talents and created her better. Please pray for me that I could be just as successful as her or even more successful than her. She gets praised for her talents. It wouldn’t feel so bad if she actually liked me as a person.

How about another prayer;

Heavenly Father please give me the ability to understand that there will always be people in this world who appear to be more successful, more powerful, more beautiful and wealthier than me. Give me the humility to understand that none of this matters in my life. The only thing that I should wish for is to become more and more your daughter, your handmaid, your servant here on earth so that I may praise you for eternity in heaven. Amen

Is she a Catholic though?

"For nothing more glorious, nothing nobler, nothing surely more honorable can be imagined than to belong to the One, Holy Catholic, Apostolic and Roman Church, in which we become members of One Body as venerable as it is unique; are guided by one supreme Head; are filled with one divine Spirit; are nourished during our earthly exile by one doctrine and one heavenly Bread, until at last we enter into the one, unending blessedness of heaven." - Ven Pope Pius XII

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Read the whole thing here.

I just don’t know why God would create some people to just be better than others. I mean I tried to say well maybe this person has this but whatever she may lack I may have. But no. She is more charismatic, intelligent, talented, successful, etc. than me.

I would still rather change places with her even if she wasn’t Catholic.

So what??? There will always be people who are more charismatic, intelligent . . .etc., than you are, moreover, God does not play favourites, i.e., we are all given the potential to do great things, however, some realize this potential more than others because they are not afraid to act upon it. I think realizing the potential that’s inside YOU will lead you to do the things that God created you for.

p.s. Are you sure you want to trade places with her, i.e., she may be suffering things you have no knowledge of?

It just isn’t fair that other people are given more. I could try my best but I won’t catch up to her. It wouldn’t be so bad if she at least liked me. Unfortunately I creeped her out. I prayed to God I could get over her in one summer if she wasn’t meant for me. But I couldn’t get over her. I wish God could take me to heaven right now. I don’t want to be here.

“It just isn’t fair”? Tell that to the Christians throughout history–and those being martyred today–that it’s so terrible that you haven’t got what she’s got. Tell that to people starving, with no access to clean water; tell that to the literally millions of people who are worse off than you are.

Yep. You are right. God has given us different portions in life, different abilities, different talents. In fact, read the parable of the talents, in which various servants are given different amounts of money to invest. The point of the parable? Do the best you can furthering the kingdom of God with whatever you are given.

This sounds harsh, but I think that it is the most helpful thing to tell you. You will be so much happier if you look to God for your satisfaction instead of comparing yourself to others. Envy is a device of the Evil One.

Everybody has to work with the hand they are dealt. Life is not fair. I can only assume you are a teen or maybe early 20’s if you still have not made peace with the fact that life is not fair. Please do not take this as being mean but you need to cut out the pity party. It is not attractive to women. When you want something you do what it takes to make it happen. You work at it. You do not cry over the fact that it was not given to you. Perhaps this woman worked very hard to learn the guitar. Why cant you? Not everyone is extremely charismatic. If you are socially awkward, you can work at that too. If you want to own your own business, work at it.

My grandparents were a large part responsible for me being over 300lbs when I was a teenager. When A kid is overweight, it is the parents fault. Not the kids. Well, that was not fair to me!!! But when I turned 16 I worked very hard to lose about 120lbs. I could no longer cry that it was not fair that I was fat when most the others at school were not. I did something about it. It was not fair that I did not get the chance to date in high school because I was too shy to ask a singe woman out because of my weight. Oh yeah… and why did my Mom and Dad not raise me? That is not fair either! (I have no abandonment issues or resentment towards my mom and dad, thanks be to God)

I was not born super smart. I am fairly smart. But I don’t trust that I am smart enough to go to college and earn a masters degree so I can get a job that is more mental than physical. So, I make my living by the sweat of my brow. I am a construction worker and proud of it. And I make a better living than some people I know that did go to college and have a college degree. That is not fair to them either… but that is life.

I can go on and on. Please, concentrate on your relationship with God and be thankful for what you do have. I know that having a crush on a woman when she does not like you can mess with your head. I know that all to well. It will pass though. I can take time. I was once heartbroken over a woman for 11 months. It was painful but it passed. What is there about yourself that you can work on (within reason) to help boost your confidence? Think about that too. Don’t worry about “catching up” to her. Someone will always be more successful than you. God bless brother. I will say a prayer for you.

Realtiger, some observations:
  1. Life’s not fair. I’m sorry. That’s how it is.
  2. That said, something that you will see as you get older: time is the great equalizer in life. The person who ‘has it all’ in high school is the person who has their wife leave them when they’re 35. Kids who get called things like “dork” and “nerd” at 17 get called things like “boss” at 40 or “your honor” at 50. No one goes undefeated in life.
  3. If all else fails: remember how much more you have in life than others; try to understand that we all have certain talents and with those things come certain responsibilities; and dare I say it maybe you’re not getting these “things” you want because you’ve not yet earned them or because God has something else special planned for you.

Yes. Another thing I’ve been realizing the last few years is that if I think somebody doesn’t have any problems, that’s generally a good sign that I don’t know them very well. The better you somebody, the more you know about their problems.

Realtiger,

How old are you? Anyone knows that “life isn’t fair”.

To give you some encouragement, however, I invite you to watch the movie “Gifted Hands”, based on the autobiography by Dr. Benjamin Carson, a (now) retired pediatric neurosurgeon who overcame discrimination to become probably the most famous surgeon in the world.

Paul

Please stop comparing yourself unrealistically to other people. For:
  1. What you see in other people are the Rose Colored Glasses of what you want to see or based on unrealized beliefs you have for these other people. They most likely do not reflect reality. You really have no idea what this person is truly feeling inside.
  2. Start focusing on your personally relationship with God. Pray to God for guidance in discovering his purpose for you and to help you move towards fulfilling them. You yourself are just as precious in God’s eyes as any other person in this world.
  3. Learn what envy is and how it is considered one of the deadly sins.
